On August 7, Qilu Pharmaceutical’s Class 4 generic drug, Sildenafil Citrate Tablets, was approved for marketing, deemed as having passed the consistency evaluation, making it the third company in China to achieve this milestone for the drug, following Baiyunshan and Yabang Pharmaceutical.

Pfizer is the original developer of sildenafil, which is clinically indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Data show that sildenafil citrate is currently the largest product in the ED market, with a market share exceeding 70%, and its sales proportion has been rising year by year. Additionally, it is worth noting that in the field of andrology, Qilu Pharmaceutical’s tadalafil was approved for marketing in November 2019.

Sildenafil has been included in the third batch of centralized procurement. Following its recent approval for market launch, Qilu Pharmaceutical will participate in the bidding for this third batch later this month, competing against the originator manufacturer Pfizer, as well as Baiyunshan and Yabang Pharmaceutical, which had previously passed the consistency evaluation.
