Liu Jing, General Manager of Sanofi China’s Cardiovascular and Established Products Business Unit; Zhu Hailuan, Head of Public Affairs and Market Access at Sanofi China; Gao Mengxuan, Co-General Manager and Chief Strategy Officer of Ping An Smart City; Long Quan, Deputy General Manager of Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, Ltd.; Xie Zhenzhong, General Manager of the Smart Healthcare Business Unit of Ping An Smart City; and Dai Wenjie, Head of the Plavix Business Team within Sanofi China’s Cardiovascular and Established Products Business Unit, jointly attended and witnessed the cooperation signing ceremony in Shanghai.

Shared by Gao Mengxuan, Co-General Manager and Chief Strategy Officer of Ping An Smart City: “In the healthcare sector, Ping An and Sanofi share a common vision and mission, with both committed to contributing to the realization of the ‘Healthy China 2030’ strategy. Leveraging its underlying technology platform, Ping An Smart Healthcare is striving to become a comprehensive platform that connects users, insurance companies, the pharmaceutical and medical device ecosystem, health insurance providers, medical institutions, smart devices, and various health service providers.”

Long Quan, Deputy General Manager of Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, Ltd., stated: “This collaboration between Ping An and Sanofi marks the first insurance product designed to provide cardiovascular risk coverage for patients diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome. By leveraging the respective strengths of both parties, this initiative will not only help address the significant unmet medical needs in the Chinese market, but also enhance public health awareness and improve the accessibility and quality of healthcare services, thereby alleviating the financial burden on patients.”

Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) has become one of the leading causes of death among residents in China, with its incidence continuing to rise in recent years. Inadequate awareness of recurrence risks during both in-hospital and post-discharge periods, coupled with patients’ low level of attention, has led to poor disease management and suboptimal medication adherence. These factors collectively elevate the risk of recurrence and further exacerbate the disease burden.

Even after receiving evidence-based preventive therapy, patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) still face a high residual risk, which is partly associated with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Therefore, lowering LDL-C is the cornerstone of secondary prevention in ACS patients. Alirocumab injection, an innovative medication that was recently launched in China in April 2020, is not only supported by robust evidence demonstrating its significant reduction in cardiovascular events among ACS patients, but also currently remains the only[1]Proven to be associated with a 15% reduction in all-cause mortality[2]Relevant PCSK9 Inhibitors for Patients with Recent Acute Coronary Syndrome Already Receiving Statin Therapy[3], significantly reducing LDL-C levels by 61%[4]

Based on risk management for high-risk patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), Sanofi and Ping An Group will launch the “Ping An Lida” project. This initiative integrates Sanofi’s ACS risk management-related products with the coronary heart disease patient management platform provided by Ping An International Smart City Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Ping An Group, as well as an innovative commercial insurance product for post-operative coronary heart disease risk, designed and developed by Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, Ltd. By combining clinical management, pharmaceutical services, and commercial insurance, the project aims to provide patients with comprehensive and attentive end-to-end disease management services.

As a leader in the prevention and control of chronic diseases,Liu Jing, General Manager of Sanofi China’s Cardiovascular and Mature Products Business Unit, stated“This collaboration marks the first initiative since Sanofi and Ping An Group established their strategic partnership, integrating multiple components including insurance product design and development, chronic disease patient management, application of medical AI technology, pharmacy benefit management, patient payment and insurance solutions, and integrated follow-up care. Adhering to our ‘patient-centric’ philosophy, we will leverage Sanofi’s in-depth expertise in the healthcare industry and disease management, combined with Ping An’s financial and technological strengths, to achieve breakthrough cooperation. Together, we aim to provide scientific and professional pharmaceutical and healthcare services to patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and their families. We believe that as this collaboration deepens, it will fulfill the strategic goal of ‘enhancing health awareness and improving accessibility to medical services.’ Sanofi remains committed to delivering innovative healthcare solutions to the people of China.”

This collaboration will not only help raise awareness of risk management among high-risk patients with acute coronary syndrome and reduce postoperative risks for coronary heart disease patients who have undergone coronary procedures, but also improve the quality and affordability of healthcare services.

Leveraging the data and models accumulated on the intelligent healthcare platform, both parties have pioneered innovative collaboration models in areas such as commercial insurance and basic medical insurance. These efforts aim to build a multi-tiered medical security system, enhance disease management efficiency, and control overall healthcare costs. Meanwhile, they are exploring new, smarter, and more efficient models for delivering diagnosis and treatment services, thereby improving patient adherence and healthcare accessibility, and making disease management more efficient, convenient, and intelligent.

SanofiIn addition to fulfilling the cooperation agreements for existing projects with Ping An Group, there is an intention to further deepen collaboration and expand its scope. The expansion will cover more disease and therapeutic areas and may extend to the entire lifecycle of patient disease management.
