Shanghai, November 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The third China International Import Expo (CIIE) officially opened as scheduled at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), demonstrating China’s sincere commitment to sharing market opportunities with the world and promoting global economic recovery. Upholding its beliefs in openness, cooperation, and win-win outcomes, Bayer, a global leader in life sciences, participated in the CIIE for the third consecutive year. As a member of the CIIE Exhibitor Alliance, Bayer further intensified its participation this year, doubling its total exhibition space compared to the previous two editions. In particular, Bayer expanded its presence in the Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products section. Centered around its new corporate vision, “Shared Health, Zero Hunger,” Bayer showcased its core competencies in healthcare and agriculture through a series of highlight exhibits and engaging activities. Additionally, Bayer set up an independent booth in the Public Health and Epidemic Prevention Zone, highlighting its responsibility and actions during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as its contributions to strengthening China’s public health and epidemic prevention capabilities and promoting innovation and optimization of the global public health system.

“The successful holding of the third China International Import Expo as scheduled demonstrates China’s determination to stabilize foreign trade and foreign investment, reinforcing Bayer’s confidence that the long-term positive trend of China’s economy remains unchanged and that the Chinese market continues to hold immense potential and broad prospects for development,” said Jiang Wei, Global Executive Vice President of Bayer’s Pharmaceuticals Division, President of Bayer China and Asia-Pacific, and President of Bayer Greater China. “The ‘new normal’ brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic has made healthcare and food security particularly critical. Leveraging its core competencies in these two vital areas, Bayer will actively fulfill its corporate social responsibility and play a leading role in the industry by delivering more innovative products and solutions. Looking ahead, Bayer will continue to collaborate closely with more partners in China, contributing to key national strategies such as ‘Healthy China’ and ‘Rural Revitalization,’ and empowering the Chinese people to achieve a better life.”

As China’s economy enters a new stage of high-quality development, Bayer will continue to leverage its expertise in life sciences to expand its practices in healthcare and agriculture, contributing to the transformation and upgrading of China’s industrial structure. In healthcare, Bayer focuses on five key areas: cancer diagnosis and treatment, chronic disease management, women’s health, nutrition, and gastrointestinal health. Through five major initiatives—accelerating R&D innovation, expanding external collaborations, empowering precision diagnostics, advancing internet-based healthcare, and enhancing public health literacy—Bayer is fully supporting the construction of “Healthy China.” In agriculture, Bayer will showcase six key practices, including seeds, crop protection, digital and precision agriculture, farmer education, safe pesticide use, and the provision of safe, high-quality staple grains, fruits, and vegetables, thereby helping China achieve the grand goal of “Rural Revitalization.”

Four Major Highlights Debut Together, Showcasing Strong Innovation Strength

Centered on its corporate vision of “Shared Health, Eliminating Hunger,” Bayer showcased at this China International Import Expo a comprehensive healthcare solution integrating prevention, diagnosis, symptom relief, and treatment, alongside an innovative, efficient, and environmentally sustainable integrated agricultural solution, featuring numerous highlights.

Among the highlights, Xofigo® will make its China debut, marking Bayer’s entry into the novel field of prostate cancer treatment in the country. Driven by factors such as population aging and lifestyle changes, the incidence of prostate cancer in China has been rising rapidly in recent years. In August this year, Xofigo® received approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China. As an alpha particle-emitting radiopharmaceutical therapeutic agent, Xofigo® will offer multiple benefits to patients with prostate cancer through a novel treatment modality, further demonstrating Bayer’s commitment to meeting the treatment needs of Chinese patients with innovative medicines.

Bayer also unveiled the MRXperion, the world’s first intelligent high-pressure contrast injection system for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), at the China International Import Expo. As a groundbreaking MRI contrast enhancement injection system, its proprietary innovative intelligent platform fills the gap in information technology for MR contrast enhancement, making it possible to provide personalized and customized MR contrast-enhanced medical services for patients. Furthermore, the clinical operational optimizations enabled by this intelligent platform can significantly reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections, offering distinct advantages in preventing coronavirus infection and enhancing protection for both healthcare workers and patients.

At the exhibition, Bayer also introduced ONE A DAY® Botanical Stress Relief & Deep Sleep Tablets, a melatonin-free supplement rich in natural botanical ingredients, catering to Chinese consumers’ demand for self-care solutions with specific functional benefits. Formulated with extracts from four natural botanicals, the product causes no drowsiness and is non-habit-forming. Clinical validation has demonstrated that seven consecutive days of use can effectively alleviate anxiety and improve sleep quality. The launch of this product underscores how China’s continuously opening business environment and the robust development of cross-border e-commerce have made Bayer’s global consumer health products readily accessible to consumers in China.

In the agricultural sector, innovative, efficient, and environmentally friendly integrated agricultural solutions were a major highlight of Bayer’s booth. At this year’s China International Import Expo (CIIE), Bayer unveiled three innovative crop protection products: Zhuorun®, the first biological microbial agent launched in China by a wholly foreign-owned enterprise; Guoteng®, a new-generation patented diamide insecticide; and Luna Qing®, a novel patented fungicide. Meanwhile, Bayer’s Seminis Vegetable Seeds division introduced flavor-oriented loose-curd cauliflower.LanThe Mithos® flower variety allows for multiple harvests at the cultivation stage, delivering high yields and profitability while simultaneously meeting diverse consumer and supply chain requirements for quality, taste, nutrition, and storage/transport durability. Additionally, Bayer’s Environmental Science business unit prominently showcased its RMS digital rodent monitoring system and solutions, along with environmentally friendly, highly efficient, and low-toxicity rodenticide products.

A Series of Vibrant Events: A Comprehensive Overview of Bayer’s Key Developments

Under the “dual circulation” strategy encompassing both domestic and international markets, Bayer looks forward to collaborating with local partners to enhance product accessibility in the Chinese market, leveraging global resources and local advantages to fully capitalize on innovative achievements, thereby strengthening the domestic circulation, promoting the international circulation, and benefiting a broader base of Chinese consumers.

As the world’s first national-level expo dedicated to imports, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) serves as a vital window for building the “dual circulation” development pattern, which integrates domestic and international markets. In the coming days, Bayer’s booth will host multiple signing ceremonies with Chinese enterprises. By partnering with Sinopharm Group, Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co., Ltd., Sirio Pharma, and Weikang Bio, among other Chinese pharmaceutical industry groups, innovative enterprises, and biotechnology companies in the healthcare sector, Bayer is taking concrete actions to respond to the new “dual circulation” economic landscape and inject greater vitality into it.

Amid the emerging opportunities and challenges in the agricultural sector, Bayer continues to leverage global resources to build sustained momentum for supporting the high-quality development of China’s agriculture in the long term. During the China International Import Expo (CIIE), Bayer Crop Science will showcase highlights from its green agriculture development cooperation project, jointly implemented with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Shanghai Agricultural Technology Extension and Service Center. Meanwhile, Bayer will announce crop assistance to 200,000 farming households in Hubei Province, China, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating through concrete actions its solemn commitment to the Chinese market.

Furthermore, Bayer has extended its digital innovation culture from corporate operations to the CIIE venue. During the expo, Bayer will host a series of on-site and online interactive activities at its booth, including popular science health education, virtual farm experiences, and knowledge quizzes. These initiatives will not only provide attendees with an intuitive and engaging exhibition experience but also bring the CIIE’s featured products and solutions to a broader audience of patients, consumers, and growers across China beyond the expo grounds.

The stable development of China’s economy and society under the “New Normal” has further strengthened Bayer’s confidence and determination to deepen its roots in China. Looking ahead, Bayer will continue to seize the opportunities brought by China’s expanded opening-up, leverage a series of platforms including the China International Import Expo (CIIE), and work closely with local partners in China. Meanwhile, Bayer will remain committed to its corporate vision of “Health for all, Hunger for none,” driving continuous innovation and high-quality development in the healthcare and agriculture sectors. By introducing more high-quality products and solutions to China, Bayer aims to meet the needs of Chinese patients, consumers, and growers, thereby contributing to a better life in China.
