On November 5, Yiou Healthcare learned that Wang Lei, Global Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca and President of International Business and China, revealed at the Third China International Import Expo that AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford had jointly developedCOVID-19 VaccinePhase I and II clinical trials will be launched in China within the year. Currently, its Phase III clinical trial is progressing smoothly, with results expected by the end of this year, after which a marketing application is anticipated to be submitted in China.

“Safety is demonstrated through Phase I and II clinical trials in China, while efficacy and durability are established through global Phase III clinical trials. We aim to launch and market this vaccine in China only after verifying its safety, efficacy, and durability.” He predicted that AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine would receive national approval by mid-next year.

In response to the recent adverse events in COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials, Wang Lei stated that after analysis, the cases have been deemed isolated incidents. Clinical trials of the vaccine have gradually resumed in various countries, and the latest interim results will be introduced to China through the China International Import Expo (CIIE).

Domestic trial samples of the vaccine will be produced by Kangtai Biologicals, with technical transfers, including those of the virus strain, currently underway. According to Wang Lei, production capacity in China will reach 100 million doses by the end of this year and 200 million doses by the end of next year. Regarding vaccine pricing, Kangtai Biologicals will set the price for self-paid vaccinations.
