Bayer Signs Cooperation Intent with Beijing ETDZ at CIIE to Expand Prescription Drug Manufacturing Capacity in China

Shanghai, November 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) signed a letter of intent at the third China International Import Expo. Under the agreement, Bayer will invest more than EUR 50 million (over RMB 400 million) to significantly expand the production capacity of its Beijing prescription drug manufacturing facility, ensuring a stable supply of Bayer’s high-quality prescription medicines. The letter of intent was signed by Chen Xiaonan, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, and Luo Xiaojie, Senior Vice President of Bayer’s Prescription Drug Division in China. Upon completion, the annual production capacity of the Beijing plant is expected to increase by approximately 40%, further reinforcing its status as one of Bayer’s most advanced global production bases for prescription drugs.

A relevant official from the Administrative Committee of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area stated, “Bayer has made significant contributions to the development of the pharmaceutical industry in the Development Area and even across Beijing over the years. In particular, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bayer has swiftly resumed production and operations while rigorously implementing epidemic prevention and control measures, for which the Development Area expresses high appreciation. Regarding this capacity expansion project, the Administrative Committee of the Development Area hereby approves and supports its implementation within the Development Area. The Committee will continue to provide high-quality services to support Bayer’s future development in Beijing.”

Luo Xiaojie, Senior Vice President of Bayer AG’s Prescription Drugs Division in China, stated, “The Bayer Prescription Drugs Beijing Plant best exemplifies Bayer’s growth in China. Following the €100 million comprehensive expansion project of its Beijing plant, Bayer has further increased its investment to boost production capacity in China. This capacity enhancement project includes production areas and supporting technical facilities, and will be equipped with new fully automated high-speed production lines and a corresponding fully automated logistics system. The project is expected to become operational by the end of 2022.
