Shanghai, November 7 (Economic Daily-China Economic Net reporter Zhu Guowang) – During the third China International Import Expo, multinational medical technology companies showcased a variety of advanced medical technologies and solutions. On November 6, Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) officially launched the MARQUEE disposable integrated guided biopsy needle, facilitating histological biopsy in pathological diagnosis.
Histological biopsy is the most critical technique in diagnostic pathology, playing a decisive role in clinical decision-making regarding disease classification, staging, and treatment planning. As the indispensable “gold standard” for definitive diagnosis of many diseases, obtaining histological samples efficiently, accurately, and reliably requires a high-performance biopsy needle.

In 1883, following the emergence of the first percutaneous puncture technique in Germany, pathological diagnosis based on puncture biopsy became a widely used and reliable clinical method for assessing disease type and stage. With the continuous advancement of imaging equipment, the application scope of image-guided puncture biopsy has further expanded. Its cost-effectiveness, safety, and reliability have garnered widespread acclaim among clinical experts. However, to obtain accurate disease information through pathological diagnosis, the quality of tissue samples acquired via puncture biopsy must be ensured. Factors such as the needle tip design of the biopsy needle, sampling depth, sample adequacy, precision of localization under image guidance, and patient pain levels directly impact sample quality and the sampling experience, thereby influencing clinical decision-making.
According to the introduction, the MARQUEE disposable integrated guide biopsy needle, with a diameter of only a few millimeters and weighing no more than 50 grams, incorporates dozens of innovative technologies. From needle tip material and design to human-needle interaction and various puncture modes, every aspect demonstrates genuine “needle” prowess. It is widely applicable for tissue biopsies of the liver, kidney, prostate, spleen, lymph nodes, and soft tissue tumors. The device can be used for punctures under the guidance of imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT, and X-ray, featuring advantages including “multi-mode, multi-plan, multi-sample, and multi-diagnosis.”
Professor Yan Zhiping, Director of the Department of Interventional Therapy at Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University and President-Elect of the Professional Committee on Tumor Intervention of the China Anti-Cancer Association, revealed that histological biopsy is a crucial basis for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, especially tumors. Meanwhile, sufficient histological samples can also provide reliable materials and evidence for in-depth diagnostics such as immunohistochemistry and molecular analysis, genetic analysis, and personalized treatment.
Mr. Liu Shiqiang, Vice President of the Biopsy & Urology and Critical Care Division at BD (China), stated that the MARQUEE disposable guided integrated biopsy needle will contribute to advancements in clinical histological biopsy techniques.
