U.S. experts state that the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer is more likely to cause allergic reactions in recipients compared with other vaccines.
According to Fox News in the United States, Moncef Slaoui, scientific advisor to the U.S. government’s “Operation Warp Speed” program, stated in a recent interview that Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine may cause more allergic reactions than expected. Slaoui said that the frequency of allergic reactions to the Pfizer vaccine is “higher than with other vaccines.” As of the 22nd, he had received reports of six cases of allergic reactions.
Reports indicate that multiple experts have previously stated that although the Pfizer vaccine is safe for most people, allergic reactions can occur. In an interview, Fox News medical analyst Marc Siegel noted that while there have been numerous reports of severe allergic cases, most people need not be concerned. Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that at least five vaccine recipients experienced adverse reactions to the Pfizer vaccine. Peter Marks, Director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, stated that this might be related to polyethylene glycol, a chemical ingredient used in the Pfizer vaccine.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that most Americans should receive the vaccine. Individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions to other vaccines or injectable therapies should consult their healthcare provider before vaccination and remain under observation for 15 minutes after receiving the shot to ensure no adverse reactions occur.
