WuXi Cellular Therapy and Thermo Fisher Scientific Announce Strategic Collaboration to Advance CAR-T Commercialization in China

On February 3, 2021, JW Therapeutics issued a press release announcing that it had entered into a strategic collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific for the non-exclusive commercial use rights of the latter’s Gibco™ CTS™ Dynabeads™ CD3/CD28 magnetic beads.

This collaboration will further advance the clinical development and commercial manufacturing in China of leading CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell) therapies, including JW Therapeutics’ flagship product, relma-cel injection (“relma-cel”). Relma-cel is an anti-CD19 CAR-T therapy indicated for third-line treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory (“r/r”) B-cell lymphoma. Its New Drug Application has been accepted by the National Medical Products Administration (“NMPA”) of China, and it is poised to become the first domestically approved Class 1 biologic CAR-T therapy in the country.

CTS Dynabeads Magnetic Beads are part of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s validated CTS (Cell Therapy Systems) product portfolio, helping to optimize the transition of approved T-cell therapies from clinical research to commercial manufacturing. The CTS product line integrates comprehensive solutions spanning the entire workflow—from cell isolation and activation to gene transduction and cell expansion—assisting cell therapy developers in addressing challenges encountered in manufacturing processes. Thermo Fisher Scientific’s CTS Dynabeads magnetic bead technology provides a scalable platform for optimizing the research, development, and production of cell therapies, while ensuring high reproducibility of results.
