On the 19th local time, the World Health Organization releasedAstraZenecaStatement on the Safety of COVID-19 VaccinesThe statement points out that the WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety assessed relevant information and data on thrombosis and thrombocytopenia following administration of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on March 16 and 19. The committee concluded that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh its risks, noting that existing data do not indicate an increased risk of blood clotting after vaccination. The observed incidence of post-vaccination thrombosis is consistent with the expected background rate of these conditions. Furthermore, while rare cases of concurrent thrombosis and thrombocytopenia have been reported in Europe following administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine, a causal link to the vaccine has not been established, and the European Medicines Agency has not yet confirmed causality.

The World Health Organization’s Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety recommends that countries continue to monitor the safety of all COVID-19 vaccines and report suspectedAdverse Reactions. The Committee will continue to assess safety data for all COVID-19 vaccines, update recommendations for use as necessary, and work with the European Medicines Agency to further investigate such events.
