April 25, 2021 /BioValleyBIOON/ --Eli Lilly(Eli Lilly) recently at the 2021 American Academy of Dermatology virtualConferenceNew evidence on the treatment of plaque psoriasis with the anti-inflammatory drug Taltz (ixekizumab) was presented at the AAD VMX experience. ThroughClinical TrialMeta-analysis and Real World Evidence (RWE): In the treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, Taltz demonstrated greater success in key therapeutic outcomes compared to other biologics.

In the first one-year network meta-analysis, based on the area under the curve and measured by Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) 100,Compared with the other 7 biologics,Taltz Demonstrated Greater Cumulative Benefit in Complete Skin Clearance After One Year of Treatment.Furthermore, in three real-world analyses of US claims data over 1–3 years, compared with other biologics studied,Patients receiving Taltz treatment demonstrated longer treatment persistence, higher prescription adherence, and more days of monotherapy.

Eli LillyImmunologyLotus Mallbris, M.D., Vice President of Development, stated, “We are pleased to present our new analysis of clinical trial data, demonstrating that Taltz provides adult patients with psoriasis more cumulative days of complete skin clearance compared with seven other biologics. This analysis further confirms our”Clinical TrialsAs a result, previous findings demonstrated that Taltz treatment provides rapid and sustained improvement in psoriasis. We are pleased to provide dermatologists with further insights into Taltz, helping them make critical treatment decisions for patients seeking complete skin clearance. InEli Lilly, equally important, our study goes beyond the controlClinical Trial, incorporating real-world data analysis to provide dermatologists with clear insights into how patients manage psoriasis and respond to treatment in their daily lives.”

Taltz provided patients with the longest duration of complete skin clearance during one year of treatment:

In a network meta-analysis evaluating the cumulative clinical benefits of biologics for psoriasis, PASI 100 was used to measure the early and sustained effects over one year of biologic agents approved for the treatment of psoriasis. The data showed that, compared with adalimumab (a TNF inhibitor), brodalumab (an IL-17 receptor inhibitor), etanercept (a TNF inhibitor), guselkumab (an IL-23 inhibitor), risankizumab (an IL-23 inhibitor), secukinumab (an IL-17A inhibitor), and ustekinumab (an IL-12/23 inhibitor), Taltz provided the greatest number of cumulative days with complete skin clearance for patients with psoriasis. In this analysis, Taltz offered 1 to 18 more weeks of complete skin clearance during one year of treatment compared with the other seven biologics.

Taltz provided patients with a total of 159 days (95% CI: 147.4–170.0 days), or 23 weeks, of complete skin clearance (PASI 100), meaning that patients had completely clear skin for approximately 44% of the year. The corresponding figures for the other seven biologics were as follows: risankizumab (152 days [141.6–162.0 days], or 22 weeks, 42% of the year); brodalumab (138 days [119.0–157.2 days], or 20 weeks, 38% of the year); guselkumab (131 days [120.8–141.6 days], or 19 weeks, 36% of the year); secukinumab (119 days [111.7–127.0 days], or 17 weeks, 33% of the year); ustekinumab (74 days [63.3–84.4 days], or 11 weeks, 20% of the year); adalimumab (67 days [55.7–77.9 days], or 10 weeks, 18% of the year); and etanercept (32 days [23.7–39.7 days], or 5 weeks, 9% of the year).

Mark G. Lebwohl, MD, lead author of the analysis and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, stated, “As a dermatologist, I am pleased to gain deeper insights into the cumulative clinical benefits of biologic therapy for psoriasis over one year. When discussing treatment goals, achieving sustained, completely clear skin is the top priority for many patients. The analysis showed that patients treated with Taltz for one year experienced approximately 160 days with complete clearance of skin lesions, which was more than any other biologic agent included in this analysis.”

Taltz isEli LillyA novel anti-inflammatory drug has been developed. This drug is a monoclonal antibody administered via subcutaneous injection, which selectively binds to the cytokine interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and inhibits its interaction with the IL-17 receptor. It does not bind to the cytokines IL-17B, IL-17C, IL-17D, IL-17E, or IL-17F. IL-17A is a naturally occurring cytokine involved in normal inflammatory and immune responses. Taltz can inhibit the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines.

In the United States, Taltz was first approved in March 2016, becoming the secondNovartisThe Second IL-17A Inhibitor Approved in the U.S. After the Blockbuster Anti-Inflammatory Drug Cosentyx (secukinumab)Monoclonal Antibody DrugsTo date, Taltz has received five approvals: (1) for the treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis (PsO) who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy; (2) for the treatment of adult patients with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA); (3) for the treatment of adult patients with active ankylosing spondylitis (AS, also known as radiographic axial spondyloarthritis [r-axSpA]); (4) for the treatment of pediatric patients (aged 6 to under 18 years) with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy; and (5) for the treatment of adult patients with active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) with objective signs of inflammation.

In 2020, Taltz’s sales reached $1.788 billion, a 33% increase from the previous year. The industry is highly optimistic about Taltz’s commercial prospects; pharmaceutical market research firm Evaluate previously released a report predicting that Taltz’s sales would reach $2.707 billion in 2024.
