SHANGHAI, May 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- WuXi Biologics (2269.HK), a global leading open-access technology platform for biologics discovery, development and manufacturing, today announced the completion of three acquisitions: Bayer’s drug substance manufacturing facility in Wuppertal, Germany; Pfizer China’s drug substance and drug product manufacturing facilities in Hangzhou; and Suzhou Bridge Biotherapeutics, a Chinese contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) for biologics.

Pursuant to the agreement signed with Bayer in December 2020, WuXi Biologics has officially taken over the drug substance manufacturing facility (MFG19) in Wuppertal, Germany.Added one perfusion production line (3x1000L) and another independent fed-batch production line (6x2000L). According to the agreement signed with Pfizer China in March 2021, WuXi Biologics has officially taken over the Hangzhou drug substance (MFG20) and drug product (DP9 and DP10) production bases, adding 2x2000L capacity for both drug substance and drug product (vials and pre-filled syringes), thereby expanding the drug substance capacity to a scale of 4x2000L.

Furthermore, WuXi Biologics has completed the acquisition of 100% equity interest in Suzhou Bridge Bio, fully taking over its daily operations and production facilities (MFG21 and DP11), thereby adding an additional 7,000 liters of bulk drug substance and formulated product (liquid and lyophilized) manufacturing capacity.Thereafter, Suzhou Bridge Biologics will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of WuXi Biologics and will be renamed WuXi Biologics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.

The acquired drug substance and drug product manufacturing facilities will commence GMP production in phases within this year, further strengthening WuXi Biologics’ global supply chain network.By the end of 2021, WuXi Biologics is expected to operate a total of 11 drug substance manufacturing facilities across China, the United States, and Germany, with total drug substance production capacity rapidly increasing to 150,000 liters, thereby better delivering superior integrated R&D and manufacturing services to global partners. Meanwhile, the company’s nine drug product manufacturing facilities (for vials and pre-filled syringes) in China, the United States, and Germany are scheduled to commence GMP production within the year, meeting the growing global demand for drug product manufacturing.
