On May 7, The New York Times reported that 70 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine might be scrapped due to contamination.

Among them, millions of vaccine doses have been delivered to the European Union, Canada, and South Africa. Reports stated that in March this year, a factory in Baltimore, USA, accidentally contaminated Johnson & Johnson vaccines in production with harmless viruses used for producing AstraZeneca vaccines, resulting in the disposal of up to 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines due to failure to meet purity requirements.
