Shanghai, May 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- During the 20th China (Shanghai) International Optical Fair, Essilor, in partnership with the Asian Optometric Management Association (AOMA), officially launched the "Light Up Star Future" Myopia Management Training and Certification Program. This initiative aims to introduce standardized guidelines for myopia prevention and control in adolescents, thereby promoting more professional myopia management services for this demographic.

Lin Guoliang, President of Vision Care at Essilor Greater China, stated, “Since entering the Chinese market, Essilor has remained committed to its mission of ‘Improving vision, improving lives,’ actively dedicating itself to myopia prevention and control in China. We have continuously worked to build consensus on standards, establish industry norms, and enhance public outreach. The launch of the ‘Lighting Up Starry Futures’ Myopia Management Training and Certification Program will further help unify the professional voice within the optometry industry, thereby better supporting Chinese adolescents in combating the challenge of myopia.”

As myopia becomes an increasingly severe global health concern, the market is flooded with a myriad of myopia control products, presenting optical retail stores with diverse challenges in service delivery. Consequently, standardizing adolescent myopia management and establishing clear guidelines for myopia prevention and control have emerged as significant hurdles facing the industry.

To this end, Essilor Optical has partnered with the Asian Optometry and Ophthalmology Management Association (AOMA) to launch a certification program for myopia management training in adolescents. Aimed at addressing consumers’ practical needs, the program leverages professional standards and authoritative guidance to deliver a more scientific fitting experience across six dimensions: screening, examination, recommendation, dispensing, adjustment, and maintenance.

Mr. Huang Guangrong, Executive President of the Asian Optometry and Vision Practice Management Association (AOMA), stated, “The ‘Lighting Up Starry Futures’ Myopia Management Training and Certification Program provides practitioners with opportunities for academic exchange in the field of myopia management, while significantly enhancing their professional competence. We look forward to jointly promoting certification standards for myopia management and elevating the quality of professional services through our collective efforts.”

At the launch ceremony, Dr. Yu Qing, Director of Shanghai Zhihui Eye Hospital, provided a detailed introduction to the advantages and disadvantages of various myopia control products and conducted a comprehensive analysis of currently popular control solutions. Dr. He Xiangui, Director of the Clinical Research Center at the Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center and Director of the Office of the Shanghai Vision Health Center (Shanghai Myopia Prevention and Control Technology Center for Children and Adolescents), also shared advanced experiences in promoting eye health among adolescents in the Shanghai region.

Ms. Bai Mei, General Manager of Essilor’s EBN Business Division, shared, “In recent years, Essilor has achieved breakthrough innovations in myopia control research and development, launching a comprehensive myopia management solution for adolescents that includes screening, refraction and fitting, processing equipment, axial length measurement, and the establishment of refractive records.”

This certification program represents another initiative by Essilor to promote the establishment of industry standards and scientific advancement, following the release of the “White Paper on Myopia Management” and the “Expert Consensus on Standardized Fitting Procedures for Orthokeratology Lenses.” With more professional guidance on industry standards and solutions, children with myopia in China will surely enjoy clearer vision and a brighter future.
