Successful Implementation of Lung Tumor Surgery

On July 13, the Second People’s Hospital of Kashgar Prefecture (hereinafter referred to as “Kashgar Second Hospital”) collaborated with Shanghai Chest Hospital,Successfully performed the world’s first remote robot-assisted right upper lobectomy with lymph node dissection.

The surgery was remotely performed by Professor Luo Qingquan, a renowned robotic surgical expert and academic leader in oncology at Shanghai Chest Hospital, from Shanghai, with assistance from a team led by Chen Tianxiang, Deputy Director of Kashgar Second People’s Hospital and an aid-Xinjiang cadre, in Kashgar.

This marks the world’s first radical resection of lung tumors assisted by a 5G-enabled remote surgical robot independently developed in China. The implementation of this innovative medical project not only represents a perfect integration of 5G communication technology and surgical robotics, but also serves as a vivid demonstration of how Shanghai’s high-quality medical resources have transcended spatial and geographical barriers to reach the western frontier regions of the country, thereby enabling more patients to benefit from the achievements of China’s “intelligent” manufacturing and the advancements in medical technology.
