CLS News, October 29 (Editor: Zhou Ziyi)Elon Musk, founder of brain-computer interface implant company Neuralink, stated that the company’s innovative products could become as affordable as the Apple Watch in the future.

At the 2024 Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Musk shared his views on Neuralink’s brain implants, stating that these devices should not be prohibitively expensive.

He proposed that if produced in large quantities, the price of these implants might be roughly equivalent to that of an Apple Watch or a smartphone, potentially ranging between $1,000 and $2,000.

Moreover, Musk provided a detailed overview of his so-called “600-second surgery” plan. He pointed out that “if implantedRobot", then the surgical procedure should be quick; we do have a plan."

According to Musk’s vision, the procedure requires the patient to sit in a chair and receive the implant within 10 minutes.

In July 2024, Musk outlined Neuralink’s goal of implanting 1,000 brain chips by 2026.

If Musk’s vision of affordable brain implants becomes a reality, it could revolutionize the brain-computer interface market and make this technology accessible to more people.

Previous reports indicated that Neuralink’s competitor, Paradromics, is also preparing to conduct human trials for its brain implants, with the company estimating the price of each implant at approximately $100,000.

Synchron, another competitor of Neuralink backed by Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, also announced in May its plans to expand its brain-device technology to treat conditions such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease.
