According to a report by the U.S. media outlet Semafor, Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company, has raised $600 million (approximately RMB 4.35 billion) in its latest funding round, bringing its pre-money valuation to $9 billion (approximately RMB 65.2 billion). Specific details of the financing are pending official confirmation from Neuralink.

Neuralink's Past Financing Rounds

In 2023, Neuralink was valued at $5 billion (approximately RMB 36.2 billion), but the company continued to secure funding. In August 2023, Musk announced that Neuralink had raised $280 million (approximately RMB 2.03 billion). A few months later, Neuralink raised an additional $43 million (approximately RMB 310 million).

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are currently one of the hottest segments in the medical device market. Overseas analysts believe this market holds $400 billion (approximately RMB 2.9 trillion) in business opportunities, prompting a large number of domestic and international companies to invest heavily in this burgeoning field.

  • "Link" is regarded as a key technology to help quadriplegic patients regain mobility, enabling them to control external devices with their thoughts alone. This remotely chargeable implantable device features electrode bundles that penetrate deep into the brain.

In January 2024, Neuralink completed the first human implantation of its "Link" brain-computer interface.

The second implantation surgery was performed in 2023. During the nine-minute live broadcast, the implant recipientNoland ArbaughPlaying chess online by controlling the computer cursor with the Neuralink brain-computer interface device.

Because N1 needs to be permanently implanted in the patient's head, the N1 components are encapsulated inBiocompatible Enclosure: The enclosure can withstand physiological conditions several times harsher than those in the human body.
N1also connected to 102 flexible electrode wires, the electrode wires canOnly by penetrating deep into the brain to surround the neurons can neural signals be better collected and stimulated. According to previously released information,N1Measuring 23 mm × 8 mm and equipped with 1,024 electrodes, this device represents a significant improvement in both size-to-electrode ratio and electrode density compared to existing technologies such as the Utah array and Neuropixels. Furthermore, as the electrode threads are fabricated from flexible materials, they substantially reduce brain tissue damage caused by relative motion between the electrodes and brain tissue within the cranium, thereby addressing the limitations of other current materials.

Precise implantation, effectively avoiding blood vessels in the brain, can only be achieved with the assistance of the R1 robot.
