Neuralink

Brain-Computer Interface System Developer

Zhitong Finance APP has learned that recently, Neuralink, the brain-computer interface company under Elon Musk, showcased its latest research achievements and future product development directions. It is reported that Neuralink currently has seven trial participants, including four patients with spinal cord injuries and three patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). These participants are using the related devices frequently, with data showing an average weekly usage time of approximately 50 hours, peaking at over 100 hours. Notably, Alex, a patient with a spinal cord injury, will in the future be connected to the Optimus robotic arm to perform more complex operations.

Musk stated,In the future, people may be able to fully control an Optimus robot via Neuralink., gaining full-body control and access to all sensor data. Musk also mentioned that Neuralink is developing a universal brain-computer interface technology, a method for inputting or outputting information to or from the brain without causing damage or negative side effects.

Elon Musk believes that a high-bandwidth brain-computer interface is key to ensuring the future of human civilization in the age of artificial intelligence, as it would allow the "collective human will" to align with the "will of artificial intelligence," thereby avoiding potential existential risks.

In early June this year, Neuralink announced the completion of a $650 million Series E financing round, with major investors including ARK Invest, DFJ Growth, Founders Fund, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, and Thrive Capital. Neuralink stated that this funding will accelerate the company’s efforts to make brain-computer interface technology accessible to patients and drive future device innovations to deepen the connection between biological intelligence and artificial intelligence.

Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology is an advanced technique that establishes direct communication between the human brain and external devices. It detects and decodes signals generated by neural activity in the brain, converting these signals into commands that can be recognized and executed by external devices, thereby enabling interaction between the brain and machines. Based on differences in signal acquisition and output methods, BCI technology can be categorized into invasive, semi-invasive, and non-invasive types.

Industry insiders regard 2025 as the “Year One” for the brain-computer interface (BCI) sector. According to projections by the Qianzhan Industry Research Institute, based on forecasts from overseas institutions, the global BCI market size is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25.22% from 2025 to 2029, reaching $7.63 billion.

The competitive landscape of the brain-computer interface (BCI) industry is becoming increasingly intense. Internationally, Synchron, backed by Microsoft and Amazon, has implanted its devices in 10 patients; Precision Neuroscience, founded by a co-founder of Neuralink, secured $93 million in funding for its non-invasive technology; and Apple is collaborating with Synchron to develop brain-controlled iPhone technology. Domestically, in June this year, China completed its first clinical trial of an invasive brain-computer interface, enabling the patient to perform tasks such as playing Chinese chess and racing video games after only two to three weeks of training.

From the perspective of application prospects,Medical Rehabilitation FieldUndoubtedly one of the most promising application directions for brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. For patients with paralysis, BCIs offer the potential to regain autonomous mobility by controlling external assistive devices through thought, thereby enabling daily activities such as standing, walking, and grasping objects.

Zhongtai Securities believes that brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are breaking through traditional human control boundaries, driving technological transformation in “medical + consumer-specific scenarios.” As BCI devices become integrated with real-world applications, the market size is expected to experience a multiplier effect, with China’s comprehensive industry scale poised to exceed the RMB 100 billion level. In terms of technical route distribution, non-invasive BCIs currently dominate the market, accounting for 86% of the total market share. Non-invasive BCIs are leading commercialization efforts, while invasive BCIs, characterized by high entry barriers, hold immense potential.
