Elon Musk's Neuralink Makes New Progress

According to foreign media, Musk's brain-computer interface companyNeuralinkPresidentstated,The company plans to launch a clinical trial in October, aimed at helping individuals who have lost the ability to speak by directly converting "imagined speech" into text or audio.Target: Implant Brain Chips in Healthy Humans by 2030.

It is reported that,The company has obtained approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to use an investigational device exemption (IDE) device in its upcoming trials.

The core objective of this trial is to enable patients who have lost their ability to speak due to disease or injury to achieve “mind-to-mind communication.”

The company currently has five additional clinical trials underway. The first trial was conducted in the United States and subsequently expanded to Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

Commercialization and Market Objectives

As a commercial company controlled by Musk, Neuralink's ambitions extend beyond the medical application field.

Market Size Potential:

There are tens of millions of people with speech disorders worldwide, among whom patients with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), stroke, and brain injuries constitute a huge potential market.

Product Expansion:In addition to the Telepathy (brain-computer interface) project, Neuralink is also developing products such as Blindsight (vision restoration) and Deep (treatment for neurological disorders).

Revenue Target: The company previously stated in investor filings its goal to achieve annual revenue of $1 billion by 2031.

If the voice trial achieves a breakthrough, Neuralink is expected toMedical DevicesandConsumer-Grade Human-Machine InteractionSeizing the First-Mover Advantage in Both Major Markets.

“We currently envision that healthy individuals will have Neuralink implants within approximately three to four years,” revealed the President of Neuralink, outlining part of the company’s outlook.

He added, “We believe that by then, it will be entirely possible to converse with the latest artificial intelligence models, such as large language models, at the speed of thought—even faster than you can speak—and receive feedback via AirPods, thereby effectively closing the loop.”

What Are the Future Prospects?

Data shows that Neuralink, founded in 2016, has raised approximately $1.3 billion in cumulative financing, with its latest valuation nearing $9 billion.

Human trials have been conducted since 2024; the application was previously rejected by the FDA in 2022 due to safety concerns, but approval was subsequently granted after design improvements.

The company stated,To date, 12 participants worldwide have received Neuralink chip implants, with a cumulative usage time exceeding 15,000 hours, thereby accumulating a substantial volume of real-world data. These participants have successfully controlled cursors, browsed the web, used social media, and played video games using thought control alone.

The company’s latest prospects have drawn significant attention from Silicon Valley and Wall Street, but investors also harbor concerns.

From an investment perspective, Neuralink stands at the intersection of “medical technology” and “consumer electronics”: once clinical applications receive FDA approval, the company is poised to enter aHigh Gross Margin, High Technological Barriersmarket; and if further expanded to the healthy population, it could even redefine the future of “human-computer interaction.”

But the risks are equally significant. ZhengTrue to Musk’s characteristic radicalism, Neuralink’s vision is imbued with a science-fiction aura: it could genuinely transform patients’ fates, or it could spark profound social and ethical controversies.

The coexistence of enthusiasm and concern in the capital markets may keep Neuralink in the spotlight of investors and public opinion for years to come.
