Developer of Novel Implantable Neuromodulation Technologies

October 17,Boston Scientific Announces, has entered into a definitive acquisition agreement with Nalu Medical to acquire it for approximately$533 millionto acquire its remaining equity interests in cash, thereby fully integrating it into the company’s portfolio.
Nalu Medical, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, USA,The Nalu Neuromodulation System is designed to provide targeted treatment for adult patients suffering from severe, refractory chronic peripheral neuropathic pain (such as shoulder, lower back, and knee joint pain) through Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) technology. The primary mechanism of this therapy involves delivering mild electrical pulses to the nervous system to modulate pain signals before they reach the brain. The system features a miniature, battery-free implantable pulse generator that is wirelessly powered by an external small treatment disc and can be controlled via a smartphone application.
Key Features of the Nalu System:
Micro, Battery-Free Implantable Pulse Generator (IPG):Powered wirelessly by an externally worn therapeutic patch;
Intelligent Control:Patients can adjust treatment parameters via a smartphone app;
Long-lasting and durable:Despite its smaller size, it offers therapeutic capabilities comparable to traditional IPGs, with a design life of up to 18 years.
Nalu Medical's systemReceived U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance in 2019.In the COMFORT and COMFORT 2 randomized controlled trials evaluating the safety and efficacy of PNS, the system demonstrated significant and sustained pain relief:
In the COMFORT trial,87% of Patients Achieved Pain Relief at 12 Months>50%;
In the COMFORT-2 trial,79% of patients achieved an average pain relief rate at 6 months64%。
Real-world data from more than 2,000 patients further validated its efficacy:94%patients achieved clinically meaningful improvement across multiple chronic peripheral neuropathic pain conditions。
Notably, Raymond W. Cohen, the former founder and CEO of Axonics, joined the Board of Directors of Nalu Medical earlier this year as Chairman—Axonics being the company acquired by Boston Scientific last year.
Jim Cassidy, President of Boston Scientific’s Neuromodulation business, stated, “Peripheral nerve stimulation is a field with significant potential and substantial clinical demand. Nalu’s differentiated technology will complement our existing therapies, including spinal cord stimulation, intraosseous basivertebral nerve ablation, and radiofrequency ablation, enabling us to provide advanced solutions to more patients suffering from chronic pain.”

Boston Scientific expects,This transaction will beCompleted in the first half of 2026, and forecast for 2025, Nalu's revenue exceeded $60 million; 2026: Revenue growth rate will exceed 25%.
