Gelonghui, November 21 | Elon Musk shared on the social media platform X that Noland Arbaugh, the first human participant in his brain-computer interface company Neuralink, is planning to undergo a second implantation, with the hope of restoring leg movement. The post stated: “Arbaugh, Neuralink’s first human patient, received a telepathy device implant in January 2024, enabling him to control a computer, play games such as chess, and handle daily tasks for up to 10 hours a day—transforming his life from aimless sleepless nights into attending university courses and delivering keynote speeches. He now plans to receive a second implant below his C4 spinal cord injury to bridge brain signals with severed nerves, potentially restoring movement in his legs. His progress offers hope to the 18,000 Americans who face spinal cord injuries each year.”
