SAN DANIELE DEL FRIULI, Italy, May 13, 2021 /PR Newswire/ -- LimaCorporate performed the first surgery using the Physica system with Trabecular Titanium™ (TT), ushering in a new era of collaboration and innovation.

On April 29, Dr. Ivan De Martino performed the first surgery at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS in Rome. Dr. De Martino is an orthopedic surgeon trained by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) research group, specializing in complex joint replacement and revision surgery within the Orthopedics Department led by Professor Giulio Maccauro. Prior to assuming his current position, Dr. De Martino worked at HSS for seven years and was one of the surgical designers for this implant procedure.

Following the surgery, Dr. De Martino stated: "The procedure was highly successful, and I am very satisfied with the outcome. Preparation of the tibial component was quick and straightforward, and it felt excellent during impaction. The implant seated accurately and achieved solid fixation. The patient is a young male, and I am confident this implant will support his return to an active lifestyle."

The Skytronica System TT Tibial Plate was co-designed by LimaCorporate and the HSS Biomechanics Department, which is co-directed by Director Timothy Wright, M.D., and Device Development Director Joseph Lipman. Headquartered in New York City, HSS is the largest specialized academic medical center for musculoskeletal health, in《NewNews Weekly》ranks first in the global orthopedic hospital rankings.

“HSS engineers and surgeons are pleased to collaborate closely with their colleagues at LimaCorporate on this exciting development project,” said Dr. Wright.

Leveraging HSS's design expertise, over 14 years of innovation in 3D printing, and the clinical history of Trybone Titanium™ (TT), the Physica System TT tibial tray stands as an advanced implant, enabling LimaCorporate to enter the growing cementless total knee arthroplasty market.

The Physica System TT Tibial Tray is designed to provide an implant that preserves greater bone stock through long-term biological fixation compared to standard cemented designs. This will offer greater benefits for younger and more active patients.

“We believe that the use of Trabecular Titanium™ will represent a significant advancement in cementless total knee design, improving bone-to-implant integration and enhancing patient outcomes,” said Dr. Thomas Sculco, Chief Surgeon Emeritus at HSS and one of the surgical designers of the TT tibial tray.

Luigi Ferrari, CEO of Lima Corporate, stated: "The TT tibial tray is a significant addition to the Physica system, enabling Lima Corporate to enter a new sub-segment within the total knee market. This latest product marks another important milestone for us. I am very pleased that this product will have a positive impact in helping surgeons restore patients' emotional connection to movement."
