Pioneering Domestic Mitral Valve Repair: LIFECLIP® by Koka Life Sciences Achieves First-In-Human Registry Clinical Implantation by Peking University Third Hospital Cardiac Team

On July 14, 2021, Ling Yunpeng, Director of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Peking University Third Hospital, together with Tang Yida, Director of the Department of Cardiology, and with the close collaboration of Feng Jieli, Director of the Department of Echocardiography; Yang Hang, Deputy Director of the Department of Cardiac Surgery; Zheng Qing, Deputy Director of the Department of Anesthesiology; and Zheng Huiping, Associate Chief Physician of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, successfully completed the first registration clinical trial of the LIFECLIP®, independently developed by Kokai Life Sciences.

The LIFECLIP® Mitral Valve Repair System is the world's first system to feature a tissue-guided valve repair design; it is China's first mitral valve repair system with an integrated delivery sheath design, and also the first in China to have all specifications pass a 400-million-cycle fatigue test. The success of this procedure marks the official launch of the large-scale registration clinical trial for LIFECLIP®, ushering domestically developed innovative mitral valve interventional devices into a new era.

Case Introduction:

The patient, a male nonagenarian, presented with severe mitral regurgitation on echocardiography. Following a preoperative discussion, the heart team at Peking University Third Hospital determined that he was at high surgical risk and performed a mitral valve repair procedure.

General Surgical Information:

The surgery was performed at 14:20 on July 14, 2021, in the cardiac surgery operating room. Postoperatively, the patient's vital signs remained stable, the clip placement was satisfactory, and only mild mitral regurgitation was noted. The procedure was successfully completed within 2 hours.
