Original Title: Medical Devices Professional Committee Established at the 4th CIIE, China's Medical Device Demand Continues to Grow
On July 26, the founding conference of the Medical Devices Professional Committee of the CIIE Exhibitors Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). BD served as the inaugural president, while Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, and GE Healthcare were appointed as vice presidents. Hosted by the CIIE Bureau, this event was one of the series of activities marking the 100-day countdown to the opening of the 4th China International Import Expo.
At the event, the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) stated that China's demand for high-quality medical devices will continue to grow. The NMPA will actively foster a more scientific and open policy environment for medical device market access and regulation, welcoming outstanding enterprises to introduce their best products to the Chinese market through the China International Import Expo (CIIE) platform to better serve public health. Additionally, the Department of Medical Device Regulation of the NMPA provided a policy interpretation of the newly revised *Regulations on the Supervision and Administration of Medical Devices* to help enterprises better understand the relevant regulatory measures and achieve higher-quality, more efficient, and safer development.
At the event, Liu Fuxue, Deputy Director of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), stated that the fourth CIIE will further enhance the professional standards of exhibition management, introduce innovative working measures, and strengthen the development of the Exhibitor Alliance and professional committees. The establishment of the Medical Devices Professional Committee is a significant initiative by the CIIE to respond to the people's aspiration for a better life and serve national strategic deployments. He hopes that committee members will fully play their leading and exemplary roles, offer insights and suggestions on the CIIE platform, pioneer and innovate, and contribute to the development of the medical device industry.
The conference voted to approve the charter of the Professional Committee and held a plaque-awarding ceremony. The establishment of the Committee aims to further leverage the platform functions of the China International Import Expo (CIIE): to facilitate resource aggregation, with 43 founding members bringing together industry leaders across various medical device sub-sectors, including in vitro diagnostics, high-value medical consumables, cardiovascular devices, medical imaging, orthopedics, dental, and genetic testing, 10 of which are Fortune Global 500 companies; to promote government-business communication, by inviting the Shanghai Municipal Medical Products Administration to serve as a supporting unit to guide the Committee’s operations; to drive industrial innovation, by planning to publish research findings such as 《Medical Device Industry White Paper》 to facilitate industry innovation and upgrading; and to foster open cooperation, as member organizations will collaborate to host high-profile industry events during the 4th CIIE, sharing industry experience and exploring the future of the sector.
On that day, industry regulatory authorities including the National Medical Products Administration, the Shanghai Municipal Medical Products Administration, and the Shanghai Municipal Healthcare Security Administration, along with 43 member organizations including BD, Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, GE HealthCare, Stryker, KaVo, Danaher, Siemens Healthineers, Boston Scientific, Illumina, Canon Medical Systems, bioMérieux, Roche Diagnostics, and KARL STORZ, attended the event on-site.
Deng Jianmin, Global Senior Vice President and General Manager for Greater China at BD, the chairing company, stated at the event that the establishment of the Medical Devices Special Committee at the CIIE is of great significance. BD will fully leverage this platform to connect all stakeholders and better serve the Chinese market. He also called on all member companies to fully utilize their respective strengths, actively participate in the committee's work, seize opportunities in an open market, and collaborate for mutual success.
Chen Jianzhong, Global Vice President of Abbott Diagnostics and representative of a vice chair company, stated at the event that the strong spillover effects of the CIIE have provided Abbott with more development opportunities. Abbott will leverage the platform of the Professional Committee to collaborate with industry partners in jointly promoting the development and innovation of the medical device industry, and to introduce more cutting-edge technologies and innovative achievements to China.
