SHANGHAI, July 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The disaster in Henan is urgent and deeply concerns the nation, as people across China stand united in solidarity and share in the hardships. Today, Medtronic announced a donation of RMB 3.5 million in cash and medical supplies to support relief efforts in Henan. Of this amount, RMB 3 million in cash will be donated through the Red Cross Foundation of China to fund the reconstruction of medical facilities and related recovery work at healthcare institutions affected by the floods in the region. Additionally, the company will donate urgently needed medical supplies valued at approximately RMB 500,000 to several severely impacted local healthcare facilities to assist them in resuming normal clinical services as soon as possible.

Since July 19, Henan Province has been hit by historically unprecedented extreme heavy rainfall, triggering disasters in areas including Zhengzhou. Since the disaster struck, Medtronic has closely monitored the evolving situation and the needs emerging from the frontlines of relief efforts. Upon learning that numerous local hospitals had been impacted by the torrential rains and that severe waterlogging had caused significant damage to medical equipment, Medtronic immediately deployed technical support teams to provide emergency assistance to multiple hospitals across Henan. This initiative aims to help these facilities swiftly resume normal clinical and diagnostic operations and deliver critical medical care to patients with acute and severe conditions.

They also conducted preliminary repairs on more than 20 units, effectively supporting these hospitals' efforts to resume clinical operations and ensuring that treatment for ICU patients remained uninterrupted despite the disaster.

On the evening of July 25, a team of Medtronic engineers arrived from across China at the He Yi Hospital Campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, where they worked overnight to inspect and maintain over 90 electrosurgical devices used in the hospital's operating rooms, successfully assisting the facility in resuming normal clinical services and surgical operations by early morning on the 26th.
