On July 28, Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) announced its Q2 2021 financial results, with total revenue for the first half of the year reaching $22.776 billion, a 9% year-over-year increase. Q2 revenue was $11.703 billion, up 16% year-over-year.
Bristol-Myers Squibb's business is primarily divided into three major therapeutic areas: oncology, hematology, and immunology. In terms of specific product performance, the seven products Revlimid (lenalidomide), Eliquis (apixaban), Opdivo (nivolumab), Orencia (abatacept), Pomalyst/Imnovid (pomalidomide), Sprycel (dasatinib), and Yervoy (ipilimumab) collectively contributed over $20 billion in revenue during the first half of the year, accounting for more than 90% of the company's total revenue.
In the field of immunotherapy, alongside its flagship product Opdivo, another immune checkpoint inhibitor, Yervoy, continues to drive strong growth, with first-half revenues approaching $1 billion, representing a 26% year-on-year increase. In June this year, the European Commission (EC) approved Opdivo in combination with Yervoy for the treatment of adult patients with deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) or high microsatellite instability (MSI-H) metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) following prior fluoropyrimidine-based combination chemotherapy.
In addition to the aforementioned established products, new drugs launched by Bristol-Myers Squibb over the past two years have also demonstrated strong growth momentum. For instance, Reblozyl (luspatercept), the world’s first erythroid maturation agent approved in 2019, generated $240 million in revenue in the first half of the year; Zeposia (ozanimod), a next-generation highly selective S1PR1/5 inhibitor approved in March 2020 for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, recorded $46 million in sales; and Onureg (oral azacitidine), a novel oral formulation approved in September 2020, brought in $27 million in revenue.
Could the aforementioned products become a breakthrough for Bristol-Myers Squibb's (BMS) future performance growth? We will continue to closely monitor the situation.
