Nucleic Acid Drug Developer

Biopharmaceutical Manufacturer
On August 23, 2021, Genevant Sciences and Takeda announced a global collaboration and license agreement to leverage Genevant’s proprietary lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology platform for the development of novel non-viral vector gene therapies targeting rare liver diseases. This marks the second collaboration between Genevant and Takeda, following an agreement reached earlier in 2021 to co-develop nucleic acid therapeutics directed at specific targets within hepatic stellate cells for the treatment of liver fibrosis.
Under the terms of the agreement, Genevant will be eligible to receive up to $303 million in upfront and potential milestone payments, plus royalties on future product sales. Takeda will hold exclusive rights to utilize Genevant’s LNP technology platform to develop and commercialize designated non-viral vector gene therapies for the treatment of an undisclosed rare liver disease.
Genevant's LNP technology platform has been investigated in over a dozen drug candidates, and its safety and efficacy have been evaluated in multiple clinical trials involving more than 600 subjects. The company's LNP technology was previously utilized for the delivery of the approved RNAi therapy patisiran.
