China.org.cn Finance, Sept. 5 (Reporter: Duan Siqi) On Sept. 3, medical technology company BD made its debut at this year's China International Fair for Trade in Services (hereinafter referred to as "CIFTIS"). In an on-site interview with China.org.cn Finance, Hu Yiqing, Vice President of BD's Biosciences business, stated that CIFTIS serves as a crucial platform for deepening international cooperation and promoting the global economy. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, which encompasses not only public health and livelihood issues, BD, driven by innovation, actively aligns with the new "dual circulation" development paradigm. By leveraging CIFTIS as a platform, BD further implements the "opening-up" policy and establishes a window to showcase industry development trends to domestic and international partners. BD hopes to seize this opportunity to continuously advance its "local innovation strategy" and contribute to the high-quality transformation and development of China's medical technology industry.
Hu Yiqing told reporters that innovative pharmaceutical companies in China have been continuously increasing their R&D investment in recent years, achieving remarkable breakthroughs in best-in-class new drugs. In the treatment of immune system diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, lupus erythematosus, and ankylosing spondylitis, these advancements have provided patients in China and abroad with more therapeutic options.
“BD’s innovative solutions in the biosciences enable us to empower innovative pharmaceutical companies, medical research institutions, and academic organizations at the cellular and molecular level to conduct cutting-edge global research, further enhancing the level and quality of innovative R&D in China. Furthermore, we aim to collaborate with domestic medical and research institutions to explore precision diagnostic and therapeutic solutions across the entire disease continuum—from immunodiagnostics, monitoring, and treatment to rehabilitation—ultimately benefiting a broad patient population.”
According to a financial reporter from China.org.cn at the BD booth, the large-scale “Smart Hospital” equipment exhibited by BD has largely achieved “unmanned” operation. Smart hospital solutions on display, such as the Rowa Vmax automated dispensing system and the BD Pyxis™ distributed intelligent medication management system, which are applicable to diverse core scenarios including hospital operating rooms, patient wards, and outpatient pharmacies, aim to collaborate with hospital clients to tailor-build intelligent software and hardware systems that align with the specific needs and localization characteristics of China's hospital systems, thereby establishing a closed-loop refined management framework with full traceability for pharmaceuticals and medical consumables.
Zhang Juanjuan, Senior Director of Medication Management Solutions at BD, pointed out that the development of smart hospitals can significantly facilitate the downward allocation of high-quality medical resources to primary care levels, and has also become a key focus for optimizing healthcare systems at all levels.
“The smart and refined consumables management solution developed by BD in collaboration with local innovative enterprises, as one of the outcomes of BD's long-term exploration of the 'local innovation' strategy, is custom-tailored to diverse scenarios for high-value medical consumables in hospitals in China. It provides robust technical support to help healthcare institutions enhance management efficiency and refined operational capabilities, thereby helping to optimize hospital management and deliver a technical solution for cost reduction and efficiency improvement across overall healthcare expenditures.”
In the "Laboratory and Clinical Diagnostics Exhibition Area," reporters observed the display of products such as the FACSymphony high-parameter flow cytometer and the Rhapsody single-cell multi-omics laboratory solution. Notably, during the CIFTIS conference, BD also unveiled a globally innovative product, the Venovo iliofemoral venous stent.
According to BD representatives, the Venovo venous stent, as the world’s first FDA-approved venous-specific stent, has broken the long-standing absence of dedicated stents with corresponding indications for venous disease treatment in the field of peripheral vascular disease interventional therapy. It was nominated for the 14th Prix Galien in 2020. Following LifeStream, China’s first balloon-expandable vascular covered stent, the Venovo venous stent is another BD product to gain market approval in China via the clinical trial waiver pathway based on overseas data.
Themed "Digital Opens the Future, Services Promote Development," this year's CIFTIS has established a Health and Healthcare Services zone for the first time. BD set up an exhibition booth spanning over 120 square meters in the newly completed Shougang Park exhibition area, centrally showcasing the "Holistic Healthcare Scenario Solutions," "Comprehensive Vascular Access Solutions," "Smart Pharmacy Exhibition Area," "Laboratory and Clinical Diagnostics Exhibition Area," and "ICU Exhibition Area." These exhibits highlight technologically innovative solutions covering core medical scenarios from clinical laboratories, operating rooms, and ICUs to outpatient clinics and pharmacies, as well as a comprehensive medical ecosystem spanning R&D, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
