Kangtai Biological Products Secures Production License for Adenovirus Vector COVID-19 Vaccine, Expanding Export to Enhance Global Vaccine Accessibility

Recently, Kangtai Biological Products also renewed its 《Production License》, adding to the production scope at its Shenzhen Guangming facility: Recombinant Novel Coronavirus Vaccine (Y25 Adenovirus Vector).

According to statistics from the authoritative data platform Our World in Data, as of September 2, 2021, the adenovirus-vector COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford has been approved for use in over 180 countries worldwide. Previously, in August 2020, Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. and AstraZeneca signed the "License Agreement", under which AstraZeneca exclusively licensed Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. to conduct the research and development, production, and commercialization of the adenovirus-vector COVID-19 vaccine in mainland China. Through the signing of this amendment, Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. and AstraZeneca will expand the overseas commercialization territory of their adenovirus-vector COVID-19 vaccine, laying the foundation for local regulatory registration and sales. Meanwhile, Kangtai Biological has already established sufficient production capacity and operational conditions, and is expected to subsequently export the finished vaccine products to countries such as Indonesia and Pakistan. This will help alleviate vaccine supply shortages and contribute to improving the global accessibility and affordability of vaccines, particularly in developing countries.
