Smith & Nephew Appoints Hu Hai as New General Manager for Greater China Region

On September 27, Myra Eskes, President of Smith & Nephew Asia Pacific, announced to employees that Alaeddin Ahram, Managing Director of Smith & Nephew Greater China, will be leaving the company. Hu Hai, formerly from Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics, has joined Smith & Nephew and will assume the role of General Manager for Greater China, effective September 27. Based in Shanghai, he will report directly to Myra Eskes, President of Smith & Nephew Asia Pacific.

Mingde An joined Smith & Nephew in 2014 as Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing for Advanced Surgical Devices in Emerging Markets. Two years later, he was transferred from Dubai to China and has served as Managing Director of Smith & Nephew Greater China to date.

Hu Hai graduated from Beijing Institute of Technology and has over 20 years of experience in the medical technology industry. Prior to joining Smith & Nephew, Hu Hai served as Vice President, China for DePuy Synthes, a Johnson & Johnson orthopedics company.

GE Healthcare is another company where Hu Hai had a relatively long tenure. From 1999 to 2008, he held multiple management positions at GE Healthcare. In 2009, Hu Hai joined TCL Medical Group, becoming its inaugural Chief Executive Officer for the China region and a member of the Board of Directors. In addition to the aforementioned companies, he served as Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at Boston Scientific from 2015 to 2017, before joining Johnson & Johnson Medical in 2017 as Senior Director of the Joint Division.
