In recent years, myopia has become a major public health issue affecting the physical and mental health of children and adolescents in China, as well as the nation's socio-economic development. According to survey data from the National Health Commission, the overall myopia rate among children and adolescents in China was 52.7% in 2020, compared to 50.2% in 2019. Strengthening myopia prevention and control among children and adolescents, and promoting their visual health, is a vision-care initiative that has garnered nationwide attention. During the China International Import Expo (CIIE) last year, EssilorLuxottica Group made the global debut of Stellest®lenses, benefiting hundreds of thousands of children and adolescents within a year. This year, the group has further stepped up its efforts, launching two products designed for myopia control in children and adolescents.First ReleaseNew product.
Developed in collaboration with CooperVision, the MiSight™ soft hydrophilic contact lens is currently the first and only soft hydrophilic contact lens globally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to slow myopia progression in children and adolescents aged 8 to 12 at initial fitting. The product also underwent priority review by China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and was approved in August 2021. Supported by up to three years of clinical research evidence, MiSight™ is indicated for myopia correction in children aged 8 to 12 at initial fitting. Featuring a concentric dual-focus design that creates myopic defocus, the lens aims to slow axial length elongation in patients. The product is distinguished by three key features: easy self-insertion and removal, clear vision, and comfort. Following its regulatory approval in China, MiSight™ made its debut at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and is expected to be officially launched in the spring of 2022.

Another myopia control product is the innovative Diffusion Optics Technology lens, making its debut in Asia. Clinical trials conducted on myopic children at 14 sites across North America demonstrate that this lens can effectively slow myopia progression. It has obtained EU CE certification and is expected to be launched in the Chinese market next year.

Fully Automatic Refraction and Biometry Device Micron-Level Measurement Accuracy
The EssilorLuxottica Group has launched its first integrated device combining biometry, keratometry, and refraction measurement: the Essilor Automated Refraction Biometer. Equipped with high-precision optical self-calibration technology, the instrument continuously calibrates the measurement system in real time, eliminating the need for daily (or periodic) calibration and maintenance while ensuring micron-level measurement accuracy. With optimal patient cooperation, the Essilor fully automated biometer can perform one-click automatic pupil recognition and real-time 3D alignment, acquiring 10 binocular biometric parameters—including axial length—in as little as 30 seconds. Whereas the current market typically requires two separate devices to obtain all comparable parameters, this new product reduces patient queueing time for examinations and directly enhances clinical examination efficiency.

Specialty Lenses Over 100 Diopters: Clearing Extreme Vision Impairment
Targeting individuals with extreme refractive errors, EssilorLuxottica Group unveiled Exceptio, a handcrafted bespoke lens product from a French specialty lens laboratory, during the China International Import Expo (CIIE). This innovation enables wearers to regain clear vision and freely pursue their life aspirations, just like anyone else. Currently, the mainstream prescription range in the Chinese market typically spans from -30.00 D (myopia) to +30.00 D (hyperopia). In contrast, Exceptio lenses can correct up to -100.00 D of myopia and +90.00 D of hyperopia. Furthermore, a specialized manufacturing technique effectively "conceals" lens thickness, rendering a -20.00 D myopic lens comparable in thickness to a standard -10.00 D lens, thereby seamlessly combining optical performance with aesthetic appeal.

With changes in visual habits in the digital era, presbyopia has demonstrated a trend toward earlier onset in recent years. Among the population aged 35 and above, nearly 57% are affected by this condition. At the launch event, the Group showcased its newly introduced CoolAge Adult Progressive 3-in-1 Solution, comprising innovative progressive experience demonstration tools, smart digital mobile fitting software, and the CoolAge progressive multifocal lens series. Officially launched in the Chinese market this September, the solution is designed to provide consumers with an authentic, hands-on understanding of progressive lenses, equip optical retailers with straightforward and precise fitting tools, and deliver progressive lenses that ensure easy adaptation and comfortable wear. Compared with traditional progressive lenses, the CoolAge series offers an extra-large central adaptation zone averaging 3.4 times larger, resulting in a wider and clearer field of vision.
