【Pharmaceutical Network Corporate News】Strategic Expansion into Innovative Liver Disease Therapeutics: Fosun Pharmaceutical Plans RMB 414 Million Investment in Hepa Thera. Recently, Fosun Pharmaceutical announced that its controlling subsidiary, Fosun Pharmaceutical Industry, plans to invest RMB 414 million to participate in Hepa Thera's Series B financing and equity transfer. Of this amount, RMB 218 million will be subscribed to the newly increased registered capital, and RMB 197 million will be used to acquire a portion of the equity held by its affiliated companies, Suzhou Fund and Tianjin Fund. Upon completion of the transaction, Fosun Pharmaceutical Industry will hold a 20.87% stake in Hepa Thera.
Fosun Pharmaceutical remains deeply committed to its pharmaceutical business, with innovative drugs serving as the core development focus. In 2025, the company achieved an operating revenue of RMB 41.662 billion, of which pharmaceutical business revenue accounted for over 70%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company reached RMB 3.371 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 21.69%; total R&D investment amounted to RMB 5.913 billion, with R&D expenditure related to innovative drugs accounting for 72.77%, as the company continuously advances its innovation-driven transformation.
Hepa Thera, the target of Fosun Pharmaceutical's proposed investment, is primarily engaged in the research and development of innovative therapeutics for liver diseases. Leveraging technologies such as RNA interference, antibodies, fusion proteins, and gene editing, the company focuses on addressing unmet clinical needs in the treatment of liver diseases, including hepatitis B, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis, liver cirrhosis, and autoimmune liver diseases. Its core R&D pipeline includes the siRNA drug HT-101 and the neutralizing antibody HT-102, among others.
Data indicate that HT-101 (proposed registration classification: Class 1 chemical drug) is an innovative GalNAc-conjugated siRNA therapeutic with high liver-targeting capability. It specifically silences hepatitis B virus (HBV) mRNA, thereby blocking the synthesis of multiple viral proteins at the source to exert anti-HBV effects. Currently, HT-101 for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection is undergoing Phase II clinical trials in China. HT-102 is a fully human neutralizing antibody capable of rapidly capturing and clearing HBsAg from the bloodstream, helping the host re-establish immune recognition. Phase II clinical trial data for the combination therapy of HT-101 and HT-102 in chronic hepatitis B demonstrate an HBsAg clearance rate of 79%.
Fosun Pharmaceutical stated that this investment aims to enrich the Group's pipeline portfolio in the field of liver disease therapeutics. Industry insiders note that China currently has a substantial patient base with liver diseases, a significant unmet clinical need for advanced therapeutics, and that the innovative liver disease drug sector offers vast market potential. Leveraging Hepa Thera's cutting-edge technologies and clinical pipeline, Fosun Pharmaceutical can further optimize its innovative drug pipeline matrix and enhance its core competitiveness in the treatment of major diseases. Meanwhile, Fosun Pharmaceutical's mature translational R&D system, commercialization channels, and international resources will provide robust support for Hepa Thera's clinical development, translation of research outcomes, and market commercialization.
It is reported that, with the continuous advancement of R&D and innovation, 16 indications across 7 innovative drugs independently developed or in-licensed by Fosun Pharmaceutical were approved for marketing in China and overseas in 2025, while marketing authorization applications for an additional 6 innovative drugs have been accepted. Meanwhile, the company has continued to make strides in BD transactions and international cooperation. Data indicates that in 2025, the company completed a cumulative total of 6 out-licensing deals, encompassing multiple innovative pipelines such as the oral GLP-1 drug YP05002, the small-molecule inhibitor FXS6837, and the innovative monoclonal antibody serplulimab injection (anti-PD-1 mAb). Collaborating partners include multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer. Throughout the year, the total upfront payments from out-licensing exceeded USD 260 million, with potential milestone payments surpassing USD 3.8 billion. Looking ahead, as the core pipeline of Hepa Thera continues to advance through clinical development and gradually achieves commercialization, Fosun Pharmaceutical's innovative drug portfolio will be further enriched, continuously unleashing momentum for innovation-driven growth.
