PfizerPfizer recently announced positive topline results from a Phase 3 clinical study (B7471026). The study was conducted in 570 adult patients aged ≥65 years in the United States, describing the safety and immunogenicity of Prevnar 20 (Pneumococcal 20-valent Conjugate Vaccine) and the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine when administered concomitantly, or each vaccine administered concomitantly with placebo.
The results showed,When administered concomitantly with a dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (n=190) or placebo (n=191), Prevnar 20 elicited similar immune responses against all 20 serotypes.。When administered concomitantly with Prevnar 20 or placebo (n=182), the booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine elicited a similar immune response. The safety profile of co-administration of Prevnar 20 with a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine reflects the safety of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine booster dose.
Kathrin U. Jansen, PhD, Senior Vice President and Head of Vaccine Research and Development at Pfizer, stated: "Pfizer is firmly committed to addressing the burden of certain respiratory diseases while increasing awareness of the importance of adult immunization."These new safety and immunogenicity data provide further evidence supporting the potential for coadministration of Prevnar 20 with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine., thereby reducing the number of adult visits to doctors' offices or pharmacies for recommended immunizations. We believe that, according to the guidance of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), healthcare providers have an opportunity to discuss other recommended vaccines with adult patients."

Prevnar 20 is a 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, which was approved in the United States in June 2021.
FDAApproval: For use in adults aged 18 years and older to prevent invasive diseases and pneumonia caused by serotypes of pneumococcal bacteria contained in the vaccine. Prevnar 20, with a single injection, provides strong and meaningful protection for adults against the serotypes responsible for the majority of prevalent pneumococcal diseases worldwide.
Prevnar 20 includes the 13 serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) contained in Prevnar 13, as well as seven new serotypes (8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15BC, 22F, and 33F). These seven new serotypes are all global causes of invasive pneumococcal disease, six of which (8, 10A, 11A, 15BC, 22F, and 33F) are associated with high mortality rates, and four are related to
AntibioticsAssociated with drug resistance (11A, 15BC, 22F, and 33F) and/or meningitis (10A, 15BC, 22F, and 33F).
Globally, pneumococcal pneumonia is estimated to cause approximately 500,000 deaths and 30 million infections annually in adults aged 70 years and older. Overall, the 20 serotypes included in Prevnar 20 collectively account for the majority of pneumococcal diseases currently prevalent in the United States and globally. (Bioon.com)
