LONDON and NEW YORK, March 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ --Huma Therapeutics LimitedHuma, a global digital health technology company dedicated to advancing digital-first care delivery and research, aims to help people live longer and more fulfilling lives. The company today announced a new partnership with AstraZeneca to scale digital health innovation. This initiative builds on various use cases previously implemented between Huma and AstraZeneca, reflecting a shared ambition to improve clinical outcomes through digital health solutions and bridge the communication gap between patients and clinicians.

As part of this collaboration, Huma and AstraZeneca will jointly launch Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) companion apps across multiple therapeutic areas and will work together to accelerate the adoption of decentralized clinical trials. These initiatives will build on Huma’s proven technologies, which already provide digital-first care to over 1.8 million active patient users across more than 3,000 hospitals and clinics. Huma’s technologies are designed to integrate with relevant clinical workflows to enable more efficient delivery of care services.

Huma CEO Dan Vahdat said, "Our experience and achievements in expanding innovation have laid a solid foundation for cooperation with the world's largest biopharmaceutical companies. I am delighted to receive support from AstraZeneca to strengthen our decade-long exceptional experience in providing various digital-first solutions in healthcare and clinical trials. Groundbreaking leadership, extraordinary global influence, profound medical expertise, and digital innovation will enhance our award-winning capabilities."1"The platform can help more people live longer and fuller lives."

Karan Arora, Chief Commercial Digital Officer of AstraZeneca, stated: "This collaboration marks a significant moment as it represents AstraZeneca's first support for various therapies in the digital health field as well as in the chronic disease and Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) industry. By partnering with Huma, we are accelerating the realization of AstraZeneca's ambitious goal to enable earlier diagnosis and treatment for patients with chronic diseases, allowing them to live more comfortable and fulfilling lives."

95% of chronic disease care takes place outside of clinical settings.2, highlighting the need for more digital-first care. Using the AMAZE platform, AstraZeneca conducted clinical research at leading academic medical centers in the United States, aiming to improve patient engagement, care team communication and coordination, and clinical outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. The collaboration with Huma will build on the strong foundation and early success of AMAZE to accelerate digital-first care across therapeutic areas and launch standalone software for medical devices.

AstraZeneca’s Executive Vice President and President of the Biopharmaceuticals Business Unit, Ruud Dobber, said: "We are very pleased to be working more closely with Huma as part of our digital health initiatives. We firmly believe that digital solutions can expand patient access to healthcare, advance clinical research, and identify existing gaps in care.
