MingMed Biotechnology's Recombinant Botulinum Toxin Type A Receives Approval to Enter Clinical Trials in China

MingMed Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "MingMed") announced that Chongqing Yuyan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Yuyan Pharmaceutical"), its subsidiary, has received the "Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice" issued by the National Medical Products Administration on March 22, 2022, for its self-developed innovative recombinant botulinum toxin type A for injection. The drug will soon undergo clinical trials in China aimed at treating moderate to severe glabellar lines.

Dr. Yang Wu, Chief Scientific Officer of Chongqing Yuyan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., introduced: "All currently marketed botulinum toxin type A products in China and abroad are derived from pathogenic Clostridium botulinum, posing relatively high production safety risks. Producing botulinum toxin through a new technical route of recombinant protein can significantly reduce safety risks and greatly improve product purity. This new technical route is an extremely complex systematic project with a very high threshold and immense difficulty. Over the past few decades, only a handful of foreign companies worldwide have successfully produced recombinant protein botulinum toxin. Through independent innovation, we have achieved comprehensive breakthroughs in science, technology, engineering, production, and management, and own independent, complete intellectual property rights. Chongqing Yuyan Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. has become the only Chinese company to successfully achieve the production of recombinant botulinum toxin type A and enter the clinical stage, which makes me very proud."
