Today, PathAI and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) jointly announced a multi-year strategic R&D collaboration. The partnership will leverage PathAI's digital pathology technology platform (including its AIM-NASH tool) to accelerate scientific research and drug development programs in oncology and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

PathAI is one of the Fierce Medtech’s annual “Fierce 15” medtech companies, aiming to leverage artificial intelligence and deep learning to analyze pathology data, thereby facilitating the development of innovative diagnostics and therapies. For instance, the company's AI-based Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) scoring system can accurately reproduce the clinical trial endpoints for NASH symptom resolution. In a clinical trial, AI-driven PD-L1 scoring identified 28% of PD-L1 positive patients among those evaluated as PD-L1 negative by human assessment. The company completed a $165 million Series C financing round last year.

"We look forward to leveraging PathAI's expertise and models to advance the development of GSK's proprietary AI models, focusing on designing better models to bring improved treatment options to patients with cancer and NASH," said Dr. Kim Branson, Global Head of AI and Machine Learning at GSK.

"This collaboration brings together the platform engineering teams of GSK and PathAI to jointly develop algorithms and rapidly integrate insights into clinical trials," said Dr. Andrew Beck, co-founder and CEO of PathAI. "Through this partnership, our goal is to harness the power of machine learning to predict which patients in high demand can benefit from the therapy."
