SONOSEMI

Active Vascular Implantable and Interventional Medical Device R&D and Manufacturer

Recently, Sonosemi Medical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SONOSEMI") announced the completion of a multimillion-dollar Series A round of financing. This round of investment was led by a well-known investment institution, with follow-on investments from Beijing Alwin Asset Management, Ltd., Furong Investment, and others. Existing shareholder Eight Roads Capital made an oversubscribed follow-on investment, while Ruijian Capital and Shaoxing Keqiao Huayu Zhixinfei Equity Investment Partnership (Limited Partnership) continued their support. Dandelion Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor. The funds raised will be used to further expand the R&D pipeline, increase production capacity, conduct clinical trials, and promote and educate the market about existing products.

SONOSEMI was founded in April 2020, with its headquarters located in Shenzhen. The company focuses on the field of pan-vascular diseases and is committed to becoming an internationally leading platform for implantable and interventional medical devices. The company has assembled a research and development team from well-known medical device and ICT enterprises, possessing rich experience in areas such as biomaterials and electronic engineering.

The coronary artery shockwave lithotripsy system, independently developed by the company as the first of its kind in China, has already begun clinical enrollment ahead of others, with rapid progress. The coronary artery shockwave lithotripsy system includes a shockwave coronary balloon catheter and an intracorporeal shockwave treatment device (including the main unit and operating handle). The operating handle connects separately to the shockwave coronary balloon catheter and the main unit, and through its control buttons, can start or stop intravascular lithotripsy treatment. It offers excellent safety, convenience, and reliability.

Complex Coronary Lesions Include CTO, Left Main Lesion, Multi-Stent Lesion, Severe Calcified Lesion, etc. Among them, calcified lesions often run through various complex lesions, increasing the difficulty of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and posing one of the main challenges for interventional cardiologists. Currently available treatment options for calcified lesions include non-compliant balloons, cutting balloons, coronary rotational atherectomy, and excimer laser coronary atherectomy (ELCA), among others.

As a new technology, the intravascular shockwave lithotripsy system differs from traditional calcified lesion treatment technologies in its working principle. It releases non-focused pulsed acoustic pressure waves at the lesion site, efficiently and safely fracturing calcified plaques without damaging the vascular endothelium. This allows for full expansion of vascular calcified lesions, achieving a "strike through the mountain" effect.

In addition, intravascular lithotripsy has an extremely short learning curve and a wide range of applications. Whether it is left main lesions, angulated lesions, incomplete stent expansion, or concentric, eccentric, superficial, and deep calcifications, it demonstrates significant advantages. The shockwave balloon achieves a perfect balance between compliance and resistance to high-resistance lesions. This technology is referred to as the "terminator" for coronary artery calcified lesions in the 2021 Chinese Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Coronary Artery Calcified Lesions.

As of now, SONOSEMI has applied for more than 70 patents and obtained over 20 integrated circuit layout design registration certificates, breaking the technological monopoly of international medical device giants in this field. While completing the development of existing products, the company has built a platform for integrated diagnosis and treatment around ultrasound technology and medical sensors. It independently researches and develops intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) in the diagnostic field, filling the gap for domestically produced products in this area.

Mr. Liu Bin, the co-founder and CEO of SONOSEMI, once worked at Huawei Technologies. He has been engaged in communication and semiconductor technology research and technical application for many years, possessing a deep industry technology background and holding more than 20 invention patents. Meanwhile, he is also a serial entrepreneur with rich experience in technological innovation, team management, and commercial application.

Regarding the successful completion of this round of financing, Mr. Liu Bin stated: "We thank both new and existing shareholders for their recognition and support of SONOSEMI. Over the past year, SONOSEMI has achieved a breakthrough in bringing products from '0' to '1,' overcoming challenges in fundamental technology R&D and clinical enrollment, and has completed significant technological reserves. In the future, with advancements in technology and supportive policies, we will enhance the accessibility of top-tier medical devices and realize SONOSEMI's social benefits. At the same time, we will continue to advance R&D efforts, build a comprehensive product portfolio, penetrate multi-department minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment scenarios, and create an integrated platform for active泛vascular disease diagnosis and treatment."
