On April 12, an internal email from Medtronic announced that Dr. Wang Xi will join Medtronic on May 2 as the Vice President of China R&D, based in Shanghai. He will report directly to Alex Gu, Senior Vice President of Medtronic and President of Greater China. Additionally, he will join the Greater China Executive Committee (GCEC) and serve as the representative of the Shanghai R&D Center on Medtronic's Global R&D Committee.

In September 2021, former Medtronic Greater China R&D Vice President Peng Yang decided to seek external opportunities. Since then, Medtronic has initiated internal and external talent assessments to find a successor, while during the transition period, Noah Friedman, Vice President of Commercial Enablement and Digital Market Expansion for Greater China, has temporarily taken over the R&D responsibilities for the Greater China region.
