To succeed the outgoing Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Dr. Richard Kuntz, Medtronic has been searching internally for some time. This week, it was confirmed that Dr. Laura Mauri will take over Kuntz's role; meanwhile, the responsibilities of the current Chief Clinical and Regulatory Officer and Senior Vice President remain unchanged.

After Kunz's departure on April 29, Mauri will serve as the Chief Scientific, Medical, and Regulatory Officer. This role will consolidate Medtronic's scientific and medical efforts, clinical research, and regulatory affairs under one leader, integrating the development of medical technologies.Patient Safety, combined with regulatory requirements.

Medtronic also hopes that the newly promoted Mauri will continue to serve on the company’s Executive Committee, helping to infuse more medical expertise into all areas of the business, from R&D to corporate investments.

Mauri has been working at Medtronic since she was appointed as the Global Vice President of Clinical Research and Analysis in the autumn of 2018. Two years later, in September 2020, she took over as the head of Clinical and Regulatory affairs.

Mauri also serves as the executive sponsor of Medtronic's Global Clinical Research Committee, leading the development of new data analysis tools to better manage clinical evidence supporting the company’s devices and software, and was responsible for clinical trial response and mitigation plans during the 2019 pandemic.

Before joining the company, Mauri worked as an interventional cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for 15 years and served as a medical professor at his alma mater, Harvard Medical School, for several years.
