Recently, Wehe Bio announced the completion of its seed round of financing. This round was led by Quanhua Life, a firm specializing in investments in the life science and technology sector. The raised funds will be primarily allocated to the establishment of a research and development platform, the building of a scientific research team, and the pilot-scale production of core products, aiming to accelerate the bio-manufacturing of high-value-added novel food ingredients and provide more sustainable solutions for the healthcare industry.

As global demand for healthy, sustainable, and functional foods continues to rise, synthetic bio-manufacturing is emerging as a core technological engine in the field of novel food ingredients. Established in October 2025 within the Beijing Zhongguancun Agricultural Science and Technology Park, Wehe Bio focuses on constructing and optimizing high-efficiency cell factories to advance the green bio-manufacturing of functional proteins and small-molecule bioactive compounds. The founding team is led by Ph.D. holders with international research backgrounds and domestic industrial expertise in China, bringing solid technical foundations and innovation translation capabilities. The team possesses core technologies in chassis strain development based on industrial breeding and synthetic biology regulation, enabling stable target product production and full industrial-scale implementation capacity. Wehe Bio aims to redefine the production pathways for functional ingredients through highly efficient, controllable, green, and sustainable approaches, providing high-quality, traceable next-generation raw materials for the functional food, nutrition, and health industries.

Regarding this round of financing, Dr. Kang Dingrong, the founder, stated: "We extend our sincere gratitude to Quanhua Life and all investors for their trust and support. This funding holds significant importance for Wehe Bio, arriving at a critical juncture as the company transitions from technology validation to scaled R&D and industrial implementation. The capital infusion not only recognizes our team's capabilities but also reflects firm confidence in the future trends of bio-manufacturing. Wehe Bio will deepen its efforts in constructing high-efficiency cell factories and developing green production processes. We look forward to working closely with our team, investors, and partners in an open and pragmatic manner to advance the R&D and industrialization of novel functional food ingredients."

As the investor in this round, Quanhua Life commented: "Dr. Kang's team possesses extensive expertise in chassis cell mutagenesis screening and directed evolution, coupled with strong execution capabilities in technology translation and commercialization. Their product pipeline—particularly in functional proteins, glycosides, and natural polyphenols—has reached a critical stage of transitioning from laboratory research to industrial development. We are delighted to collaborate deeply with the Wehe team in areas such as chassis cell development, process optimization, and channel strategy, contributing to the accelerated advancement of synthetic biology technologies."
