Recently, Novo Nordisk and Flagship Pioneering (hereinafter referred to as Flagship) announced a strategic cooperation to launch a series of new research projects aimed at developing transformative new drugs.

The two companies will jointly explore how to leverage Flagship's innovative bioplatform to address widespread scientific challenges in the cardiometabolic and rare disease fields. The ecosystem of Flagship's innovative bioplatform currently comprises 41 biotechnology companies. This novel collaborative approach creates a drug pipeline spanning multiple disease areas by utilizing the technological platforms of multiple biotech companies.

Novo Nordisk will provide funding for the research projects and hold exclusive licensing rights for each project. The goal of both parties is to initiate three to five research projects within the first three years of the collaboration. Flagship’s Pioneering Medicines and Novo Nordisk’s Bio Innovation Center will jointly select the most promising product concepts and launch research projects.

"We are excited about this new agreement, which will allow Novo Nordisk to access Flagship's extensive and diverse portfolio of companies representing a variety of novel advanced technologies and therapeutic approaches," said Dr. Marcus Schindler, Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Novo Nordisk. "This is an innovative way of collaborating that combines the strengths of Flagship’s bioplatforms with Novo Nordisk's expertise in cardiometabolic and rare diseases."

Flagship Pioneering conceives, creates, incubates, and develops world-class biological platform companies to transform human health and sustainability.
