The report outlines Illumina's efforts in ESG, covering key areas such as expanding access to genomics, empowering communities, integrating environmental sustainability, cultivating employees, and responsible operations. It highlights significant progress achieved by the company in these focus areas in 2021: benefiting 1 billion people through genetic testing, donating over $14.5 million to support more than 1,300 charitable causes, sourcing 59% of global operational electricity from renewable energy, committing to achieve net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2050, maintaining a zero net pay gap, and increasing the percentage of female executives by 5% over the past three years.
In China, Illumina, as a leader in the field of genomics, continues to make efforts in empowering the ecosystem, giving back to society, and caring for employees. It actively fulfills its corporate social responsibility and injects vitality into the development of China's genetic testing industry.
In 2021, Illumina facilitated the establishment of the Genetic Testing Industry Alliance (Shanghai), collaborating with nearly 60 upstream and downstream organizations to enhance industrial capabilities; organized the Illumina China NGS Industry Summit, bringing together over 300 leading scientists, researchers, founders, and investors in the field to jointly discuss and build the future of the industry; partnered with Sequoia China to launch the Sequoia China Intelligent Healthcare Genomics Incubator (powered by Illumina technology), empowering local innovation through collaboration.
