SmartCom APP learned that Abbott (ABT.US) said on Saturday that its plant in Sturgis, Michigan, would resume production of infant formula.
It is understood that the factory had been closed for several months due to a health incident. In the initial stage after the restart, the factory will produce Elecare and other infant formula brands under the company. The company stated that these products will be available on the market around June 20. Meanwhile, Abbott also mentioned that it is working hard to resume the production of Similac as soon as possible.
Previously, the Biden administration addressed the domestic formula shortage in the U.S. by implementing a series of measures to increase imports of formula from overseas. Additionally, on June 2, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reportedly announced it would investigate the FDA's response to the formula recall incident.
