Medtronic Relaunches Localization Initiative to Enhance Accessibility of Sedation and Consciousness Monitoring Solutions in China

ShanghaiJuly 26, 2022PR Newswire -- Recently, Medtronic's Patient Monitoring business unit launched a new localized strategy in China in Shanghai, and signed a CBS EEG sensor strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai 3F Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "3F"), accelerating the localization of domestically produced sedation awareness monitoring solutions. This move aims to provide Chinese clinicians and patients with more advanced and accessible medical monitoring technology, empowering the upgrading and development of China's medical monitoring industry chain.

As a global leader in medical technology, Medtronic's patient monitoring products positively impact the health of more than 100 million patients worldwide each year. In China, Medtronic closely aligns with the actual needs of Chinese patients and collaborates with leading local medical monitoring companies to continuously deliver high-quality and affordable healthcare solutions. In 2018, Medtronic successfully partnered with Shanghai 3F Electronics Co., Ltd. on a multi-parameter anesthesia depth monitor. Four years later, the two parties have expanded their cooperation, leveraging the robust manufacturing capabilities of China to provide a full set of domestically produced sedation and consciousness monitoring solutions to Chinese patients. This collaboration will also become an essential part of Medtronic’s localization strategy for its patient monitoring business, enhancing product development and production capacity while accelerating technological innovation.

Currently, the quantitative sedation and awareness monitoring technology in the perioperative period has gained widespread recognition in clinical practice. However, according to international standards, there is still a significant shortage of approximately 300,000 anesthesiologists in Chinese clinical settings, especially in grassroots hospitals in second- and third-tier cities. These hospitals are not only constrained by the insufficient number of anesthesiologists but also face immense pressure at the professional technical level. Through this localized collaboration, Medtronic will actively expand its presence in grassroots hospital markets via proactive product portfolio management. This effort aims to broaden its advantages in anesthesia and critical care while enhancing medical accessibility, providing Chinese anesthesiologists with simple, accurate, and objective clinical tools. As a result, more Chinese patients will benefit from precision anesthesia.
