Recently, Zumax Medical, a domestic surgical microscope manufacturer in China, has completed a Pre-IPO round of financing worth nearly 100 million RMB, jointly invested by Nantong Caleb Investment Management Center (Limited Partnership), Suzhou High-Tech Venture Capital, and Yue Yin Datong (Tianjin) Asset Management Co., Ltd.

It is reported that the proceeds of this round of financing will be used for the company's new product development, market expansion, and the introduction of high-end talents.

Zumax Medical Chairman Li Xiangdong stated: "Since its establishment, Zumax Medical has been focusing on the clinical promotion of microscopic technology and is committed to becoming a Chinese benchmark in the field of micro-medical equipment, providing global customers with high-performance and fairly-priced medical optical products. Through years of efforts by the team, the company has achieved certain results in the field of dental surgical microscopes, but we must face the gap between us and international giants like Zeiss and Leica. We thank Caleb Capital, SND Venture Capital, and Yue Yin Capital for their support and trust. We hope that through this cooperation, the company will continue to increase R&D investment, continuously optimize the team, improve operational efficiency, and focus on 'microscopy, minimally invasive, precision' to address unmet clinical needs, further promoting the development of China's micro-medical equipment in the global market. Ultimately, we aim to enable the Zumax brand to stand alongside international giants like Zeiss and Leica on the global stage."

Vice President of Investment Department of Yue Yin Medical Fund, You Linlin, stated:精细化 surgery is the future trend of the medical industry. The application scenarios of surgical microscopes are extensive, making it a rapidly growing细分板块 in the medical device field, which has long been monopolized by foreign giants. Through decades of efforts, the team led by Mr. Li of Zumax Medical has formed technical and scale advantages that have completely broken the deadlock. It has become the only leading enterprise in this field that can compete with international giants, and it also shines on the international stage. Yue Yin Medical Fund is very honored to be the capital partner of Zumax Medical, and together with Zumax Medical, we will contribute our modest efforts to promoting the development of the medical industry and improving patient welfare.

Zumax Medical Co., Ltd. was founded in 2005 and is a leading pioneer in the field of dental microscopy in China. Through over a decade of relentless clinical academic training both domestically and overseas, as well as persistent market cultivation, the "Zumax" brand has not only become a leading brand in China’s dental microscopy market but also joined the ranks of top-tier brands internationally, standing shoulder to shoulder with Germany's Zeiss and Leica. The company’s products are sold in more than 120 countries and regions worldwide, achieving significant market share especially in highly demanding markets like Japan and the EU, leaving a strong mark of "Made in China" in the global surgical microscopy equipment field.

In recent years, based on a profound understanding of surgical procedures and relying on its strong product research, development, and production capabilities, the company has expanded its surgical microscope products to other departments such as ophthalmology, gynecology, and otolaryngology. Some of these products have already been certified and are gradually being launched into the market for sales. Meanwhile, the company is actively developing products for high-end markets, including neurosurgery, where there are currently no domestically produced alternatives, with the aim of becoming a global leader in micro-medical equipment centered on micro-optics technology.

The research, development, and production of surgical microscopes represent an intersection of optics, mechanics, manufacturing, and medicine. With the continuous increase in clinical demands, features such as wide-field, ultra-high-definition, digitalization, and automatic positioning navigation have raised the manufacturing threshold for surgical microscopes.

In the global surgical microscope market, ZEISS and Leica hold an absolute market position. In 1953, ZEISS invented the world's first surgical microscope, and both ZEISS and Leica are century-old companies in the optical field with deep technical accumulation. Among them, ZEISS occupies 49.12%, and Leica occupies 23.39%. Even the third-place Olympus lags far behind with only 7.44% (2019 data).

The Localization of Surgical Microscopes in China Helps Improve the Domestic Medical Standards. In China, the application of surgical microscopes across departments and their penetration rate are not high. This is partly because doctors lack systematic training in microsurgery, and partly because imported equipment is expensive, making it accessible only to hospitals with significant resources. The localization of surgical microscopes in China, providing high-quality yet affordable equipment to end-users, helps lower the barriers for doctor training and hospital procurement. It also contributes to enabling more precise surgeries for patients and advancing surgical techniques in China.

China has a certain manufacturing foundation for microscopes. Since the 1970s and 1980s, China's microscope manufacturing industry has gradually taken over industrial transfers from Europe and Japan. However, the industrial structure mainly consists of low-end educational and popularization microscopes. Currently, surgical microscopes used in the medical field are still predominantly imported products, especially in departments such as neurosurgery.

Zumax Medical, with years of technical accumulation and deep market cultivation, has established itself as a domestically produced, globally sold company. It is currently the only local enterprise in China that can compete with international giants in certain sectors of the surgical microscope market, particularly in the field of dental microscopes, and is actively expanding into other medical sectors.
