【Pharmaceutical Network Corporate NewsOn August 9, ANTENGENE CORPORATION announced a long-term strategic partnership with AI-driven drug discovery company MindRank to jointly advance the research and development of first-in-class small molecule anti-cancer drugs. Notably, MindRank has recently contributed to the development of one of ANTENGENE CORPORATION’s preclinical candidate drugs.

Specifically, MindRank recently announced the successful completion of a collaboration milestone with ANTENGENE CORPORATION, a publicly listed pharmaceutical company. In a highly challenging pipeline for a dual-target small molecule drug in oncology, MindRank delivered four AI-assisted designed novel scaffold compounds (each belonging to four different types of new scaffolds). After third-party synthesis, ANTENGENE conducted rigorous enzyme-level and cell-level experimental validations on two targets. One of the compounds was found to meet the lead compound criteria and achieved the agreed-upon collaboration milestone between the two parties.

It is reported that the lead compound has a novel molecular scaffold, with IC50 for dual targets reaching or falling below 50nM at the enzyme activity level. Additionally, it exhibits activity similar to that of clinical candidate drugs under research on a cellular level where one target is specifically expressed.

ANTENGENE CORPORATION is a research-driven biopharmaceutical company, focusing on the development of first-in-class and best-in-class innovative anti-cancer drugs. In the field of drug research and development, the company emphasizes the development of small molecules, monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and bispecific antibody drugs. MindRank is an AI-driven drug discovery platform, specializing in the research and development of novel mechanism drugs and drugs targeting difficult-to-drug targets, and currently possesses three proprietary technology platforms.

The industry believes that this collaboration will further enhance ANTENGENE CORPORATION's current drug research and development efficiency and success rate, accelerating the provision of more groundbreaking treatment options for patients. In fact, it is no longer surprising in the industry for pharmaceutical companies to partner with AI firms to expedite new drug development. Since 2022, several pharmaceutical companies have announced collaborations with AI-driven drug discovery companies, achieving new breakthroughs.

For example, in June, Hisun Pharmaceuticals and XtalPi once again joined hands to further expand their cooperation in the field of chemical synthesis. In April, XtalPi announced a strategic partnership with Federal Pharmaceutical to jointly develop small molecule innovative drugs for chronic autoimmune diseases. Additionally, in mid-January, XtalPi also announced a strategic collaboration with Chia Tai Tianqing to co-develop small molecule drugs targeting challenging targets for the treatment of malignant tumors.

On January 11, Fosun Pharma and Insilico Medicine, an end-to-end artificial intelligence-driven drug discovery company, announced their collaboration. Within less than 40 days, they nominated the preclinical candidate compound ISM004-1057D for a new cancer immunotherapy.

In addition to the above companies, many multinational pharmaceutical giants, including Pfizer, Novartis, AstraZeneca, and Takeda, have also started attempting to invest in artificial intelligence companies or collaborate with AI enterprises. These efforts aim to reduce costs, shorten R&D cycles, and minimize risks, among other beneficial endeavors. The industry generally believes that investment in and strategic layout of artificial intelligence will gradually become an essential aspect of competition for leading pharmaceutical companies.
