China is one of the countries with the largest number of blind and visually impaired people in the world. Data shows that in the past decade, the myopia rate among young people has been continuously rising, and the incidence of eye diseases in the elderly has been increasing. As an important part of national health, eye health affects the well-being of the entire population across all age groups in society, impacting people's physical and mental health as well as their quality of life. Therefore, the goals for the development of China’s eye health initiatives have been clearly defined in the "14th Five-Year Plan." However, the Chinese public lacks awareness of eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and myopia in children and adolescents, and there is an urgent need to improve eye health awareness.
Dr. Jiang Feng, Standing Vice President of the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, stated in his speech: "Our country is a major nation with eye diseases, and the compound annual growth rate of ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment has maintained a relatively high growth rate for many years. Improving the comprehensive level of ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment so that patients can enjoy better ophthalmic medical products and services is the goal of industry development. The association is an excellent platform to promote exchanges among industry, academia, research, and medicine. We hope that experts and enterprises participating in the activities of the Special Committee will take advantage of the platform's resources to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, generate good ideas, and transform them into quality products. Although the forum originally planned to be held at the same time has been postponed, we are glad to see that the Special Committee was able to overcome various difficulties and establish itself online to advance its work as soon as possible. We hope that under the leadership of the first-term committee, the Special Committee will do a good job in serving the industry and contribute to its development."
As the First Chairman of the Ophthalmic Devices Professional Committee of the China Medical Devices Industry Association and Vice President of Johnson & Johnson Vision for Greater China, Australia, and New Zealand, Wang Liping expressed: "Thank you all for your trust and support. In the present time of both opportunities and challenges, the Professional Committee will combine the unique features of the association's work, leverage its own strengths, promote technological innovation, drive the transformation of new technologies, advance the standardized development of the industry, and contribute to achieving...‘14th Five-Year Plan’Eye Health Planning."
