The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and C-MER EYE CARE (HONG KONG) signed a cooperation agreement on the 11th, jointly establishing the CUHK-Shenzhen C-MER International Eye Research Center, with Dr. Dennis S.C. Lam, Chairman of HONG KONG C-MER INTERNATIONAL EYE CARE GROUP (CHINA) LIMITED, serving as the center director.

Prof. Vincent CHENG, Dean of the School of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), stated that the CUHK (Shenzhen) C-MER International Eye Research Center can inject professional strength into the clinical ophthalmology, basic vision science research, new ophthalmic drugs, and new instrument development fields of the School of Medicine. It will also help build characteristic disciplines, establish comprehensive industry-university-research cooperative relationships, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and cultivate high-level ophthalmic medical talents for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and even all over China.

Lin Shun Chiu stated that he is very much looking forward to both parties fully leveraging their strengths in the fields of ophthalmic research and ophthalmic medical talent cultivation in the future. Adhering to the principles of long-term cooperation, resource sharing, and common development, and guided by clinical needs in ophthalmology and scientific research innovation, they aim to establish a world-class, high-level ophthalmic research platform. This platform will conduct advanced medical research and translation and provide high-quality medical services.

It is reported that, going forward, the CUHK (Shenzhen) C-MER International Ophthalmology Research Center will build an integrated industry-academia-research ecosystem in clinical ophthalmology, fundamental vision science research, and the development of new ophthalmic drugs and instruments. The research center aims to become an international platform for scientific innovation in cutting-edge ophthalmology research. Additionally, the center has now launched a global talent recruitment drive for basic research and clinical experts.
