Diagnostic Product Developer
ShanghaiOctober 21, 2022PR Newswire -- The 5th China International Import Expo (hereinafter referred to as "CIIE") will be grandly held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from November 5 to 10, 2022. As a global leader in gene sequencing and chip technology, Illumina will participate in the CIIE for the third consecutive year with the theme "Dream Boundless, Create Infinite," showcasing"First Exhibition, First Debut" Heavyweight New ProductsRepresentative innovative achievements and cutting-edge technologies demonstrate a long-term commitment to深耕 China and serving China, with a grand vision of improving human health.
Breakthrough New Products Welcome "First Exhibition and Debut"
At this year's CIIE, Illumina's booth is located at booth C5-02 in hall 8.1 of the Medical Devices and Healthcare Products exhibition area. The company is showcasing its fastest, highest-throughput, most accurate, flexible, and sustainable next-generation sequencing system to date: the NovaSeq.TMX Plus will be the world's first exhibition and Asia's first showcaseNew Product Makes a Heavyweight DebutWith ultra-high resolution optical components and ultra-high density flow cells, NovaSeqTMX Plus achieves卓越通量提升与变革性测序经济性,并进一步打破单个基因组测序成本的边界。
"CIIE Effect" Accelerates Product Introduction and Investment Landing
Thanks to the powerful influence and spillover effects of the CIIE platform, Illumina, Inc. is accelerating the introduction of its core products and technologies into the Chinese market while fully integrating global resources and expertise to expedite localization. In March this year, the headquarters of Illumina Greater China was recognized by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce as a "Regional Headquarters of a Multinational Corporation," marking the acknowledgment of its long-term investments and development achievements by government authorities.
Benefiting from high-level openness and the encouragement of new era opportunities, Illumina continues to increase its investment in China. Recently, Illumina officially launched its first production and manufacturing base in China, with plans to gradually achieve full local production of high-end gene sequencing instruments and consumables within the next five years. The total investment for phase one of the project is nearly 50 million RMB, and the company plans to invest over 450 million RMB in the next five years to build up its manufacturing capabilities in China, ultimately realizing the strategic vision of "Made in China, for the world."
Gather Multiple Platforms, Share New Development Opportunities
Relying on the powerful market aggregation effect brought by the China International Import Expo (CIIE), an open and cooperative platform, Illumina was invited to attend the 2021 Shanghai International Biomedical Industry Week hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization just before the fourth CIIE. Collaborating with upstream and downstream allies in the industrial chain, Illumina established the Genetic Testing Industry Alliance (Shanghai) to actively promote high-quality development within the industry. During the last CIIE, Illumina reached cooperation agreements with a total of 25 Chinese genetic testing institutions, medical institutions, and commercial partners, with an intended cooperation value exceeding 1 billion RMB. In the same month as the conclusion of the CIIE, Illumina officially launched the Sequoia Capital China Intelligent Healthcare Genomics Incubator (Illumina Technology-Driven), co-founded with Sequoia Capital China, to support innovation and breakthroughs for Chinese start-up genomics companies in the field of innovative applications.
As the China International Import Expo (CIIE) enters its fifth year, its radiating effects continue to unfold, with the "positive energy" of openness, cooperation, innovation, and win-win outcomes benefiting exhibitors, buyers, and all sectors of society. This creates a virtuous cycle of "promoting innovation through cooperation and strengthening cooperation through innovation." This year, Illumina will host its annual NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) Industry Summit for the first time during the CIIE. Additionally, it will launch the "Rare and Light" public welfare project initiated by the Special Fund for Genetic Disease Diagnosis and Treatment of the China Birth Defects Intervention and Assistance Foundation, supported jointly by the Illumina Foundation and the international charity organization Give2Asia. By bringing more partners from its industry "circle of friends" to the CIIE stage, Illumina will build a platform for exchanges and collaboration among industry, academia, research, medicine, investment, and other sectors. Together, they will explore the application value and development prospects of gene sequencing technology in life science research and the healthcare industry, bringing hope for the realization of more dreams.
"In the face of numerous uncertainties in the external environment, the successful hosting of the CIIE not only demonstrates China's determination to share opportunities with the world but also strengthens Illumina’s confidence in deepening its commitment to the Chinese market," said Eric Li, Senior Vice President of Illumina and General Manager of Greater China. "This year, Illumina brings even more cutting-edge innovations and an exciting booth for our third consecutive participation at the CIIE. We look forward to leveraging this annual event to continuously seize development opportunities, collaborate with the government, researchers, clinicians, and partners to drive innovation across all segments of China’s biogenetics industry. By doing so, we aim to make advanced technologies and medical services more precise, accessible, and inclusive, harnessing the limitless potential of genomics to promote high-quality human health development."
