China Securities News (Reporter Fu Suying) — The opening ceremony of the 2022 Fifth China International Import Expo (referred to as "CIIE") was held in Shanghai on November 4. Pfizer arrived again as scheduled with its rare disease projects. It is reported that, under the theme of "Science for Victory, Love for Rare," Pfizer Rare Disease will make an appearance at the Medical Device and Healthcare Exhibition Area, Hall 7.2, on November 7, focusing on the two themes of "Scientific Care" and "Scientific Exploration," dedicated to meeting the unmet needs of Chinese hemophilia patients and heart failure patients with special causes.

In the past decade, China's hemophilia diagnosis and treatment system has developed rapidly. However, due to the large number of patients requiring lifelong treatment, there remains a significant unmet need for China’s hemophilia patient population. Hemophilia serves as a model for Pfizer’s comprehensive patient management initiatives, with two innovative hemophilia treatments already launched in China, bringing multiple benefits to Chinese hemophilia patients. In this new era, how to precisely address and meet the unmet needs of various types of hemophilia patients is a question that Pfizer has been deeply considering and actively engaging in through innovative practices.
Relevant data shows that China has 330 million cardiovascular disease patients, including 8.9 million heart failure patients. The exploration of special causes of heart failure and standardized diagnosis and treatment have become important aspects of China's cardiovascular health prevention efforts. As a rare disease with nonspecific characteristics and clinical symptoms easily confused with heart failure, ATTR-CM (transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy) presents significant diagnostic challenges due to insufficient disease awareness among medical staff and difficulties in referrals, causing patients to seek multiple consultations and miss the optimal treatment window. According to reports, Pfizer has long been committed to and invested in the field of ATTR-CM, offering the world’s first and only approved oral drug for causal treatment of ATTR-CM patients—tafamidis. In 2019, tafamidis made its official debut at the China International Import Expo. In 2020, it was officially approved for marketing in China, and by the end of 2021, it had been included in the National Reimbursement Drug List.
