This year marks the fifth anniversary of the CIIE and coincidentally the 40th anniversary of Bristol-Myers Squibb's entry into the Chinese market. In this milestone year, with an unwavering commitment to the Chinese market, we have attended the CIIE for the fourth time. Under the theme of "Guardians of Life’s Guardians," we showcased 12 globally innovative products or indications from our core disease areas of oncology, hematology, and immunology, as well as our unchanged初心of safeguarding Chinese patients over the past 40 years, together with the company's "China 2030 Strategy."
President Xi's speech at the opening ceremony of the fifth CIIE was inspiring, demonstrating China's confidence and determination to "resolve development challenges through openness, pool cooperation strength through openness, build innovative momentum through openness, and seek shared benefits through openness."
Against the backdrop of global economic growth challenges, the timely convening of the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) demonstrates China's firm determination to further expand high-level opening-up, share market opportunities with the world, and promote the recovery of the global economy. It also boosts confidence for multinational companies to actively integrate into China’s economic development while providing a broad platform to foster cooperation across various sectors. In fact, over the past few years, the "spillover effect" of the CIIE, along with a series of innovative measures by the Chinese government such as accelerating the review and approval of new drugs, has continuously accelerated the introduction of global innovations by multinational pharmaceutical companies. Thanks to these efforts, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s global innovations are entering the Chinese market at an accelerated pace. For example, Reblozyl (luspatercept for injection), the world’s first and only erythroid maturation agent, made its "China debut" at the 4th CIIE and was approved in China just two months later, becoming the first innovative drug approved in China for treating β-thalassemia in more than a decade. At this year's CIIE, more globally approved and investigational indications for Reblozyl (luspatercept) will also make their "China debut," and we eagerly anticipate the continued expansion of its approved indications.
In recent years, China has been accelerating the construction of a new development pattern with the domestic market as the mainstay and the domestic and international markets reinforcing each other. China’s steadfast commitment to continuously expanding openness in global trade, welcoming and supporting foreign investment fills us with encouragement and deep confidence. As a globally leading biopharmaceutical company, we will actively advance Bristol-Myers Squibb's "China 2030 Strategy," and continue to leverage the platform of the CIIE (China International Import Expo). We will collaborate with more strategic partners within the health industry ecosystem to expedite the introduction of global innovations into China while promoting Chinese innovation to the world — synchronizing with the Chinese market and empathizing with Chinese patients, contributing positively to the high-quality development of China’s biopharmaceuticals industry.
